Can’t see why folk are being OTT sceptical tbh, he’s out of work, jobs aren’t exactly at a premium and Bournemouth were nowt special when he took over we’re they? Dafter things have happened
The way staff both on and off the field get moved on we would be better off offering Eddie Stobart the job
The next manager will be somebody who already uses the system we play. Can't see that changing to fit a manager. He will have to fit our system
I think you're right in that's how the club will see it. Not sure it can be said that Stendel and Struber had the same playing style though, apart from wanting the forwards to press.
Normally I agree, but we did consider the Crowleys before who don't play German gengenpress etc. So maybe we are still open to something else. I know Conway has said coach needs to play this system though, and they hired someone similar for their Belgian team too. So by that logic likely be another German
The suggestion from Patricks days was to have the youth teams playing the same way as the first team to facilitate the step up and have a consistency rather than chopping and changing with every change of manager/coach. But have we played a constant system between the age ranges that mimics the first team? And has the first team system been consistent? How many systems did we play last season under 3 different coaches? And that system was very different to PH too. Even to the point did struber play the same system all the time? if the formation changes, the system has to be different by default. And in terms of Barnsley DNA (which Patrick also spoke about), how does this current team fit? In my mind it absolutely doesn't. It has industry, which is something that should be part of a BFC team. But it doesn't have drive or attacking intent. It doesn't have any bit of maverick creativity or cultism. Under Hecky and Stendel, you could see the stamp of a BFC team. This latest incarnation just isn't. Not for the personnel, but its intent. Whoever the next appointment, I very much hope the intent is to actually attack the opponent. Not to hope they fall into meek surrender/boredom from passing the ball in front of them before trying for 3 points from a drop kick.
I think regardless of personnel the team plays in the image of it's Head Coach or manager. If you have a winning attacking manager you'll have a winning attacking team. Things go wrong when coaches get conservative due to limited success and fear losing.
Eddie Howe is still fav with the bookmakers and I for one will make fun or rule him out as others on this topic (the bookies no more than most) I also see Martin Devaney as moved to 3rd Fav behind Howe and Wolfe.
wonder what odds I can get that Eddie Howe will NOT be our next manager that would be much more interesting
The evidence appears to be that our current squad doesn't fit the outgoing coach's preferred system, which is why he's been accused so often of not utilising the best available players within it (e.g. Woodrow). It won't happen, but I think we'd take a big step forward if we found a manager who's capable of working with a squad of players that he's given, and with the knowledge that his ability to influence sales and purchases is limited. Beyond that, we should leave him to utilise them how he sees fit and judge him on the results of doing that. Imposing a pre-determined system as an additional condition is just a further way to restrict him and, even though both Stendel and Struber's systems were 'gegenpress', they weren't the same thing.
