So that makes it okay then
Do i detect double standards...so easy to make your own views opinions fit......mate or no mate its still not acceptable or the done thing . Racist comments are racist comments, surely no matter how you dress them up....what one sees as a joke may and does offend the individual its aimed at.....would have thought you Pc lot would have grasped that one by now....obviously not....going by the above statement....but i suppose thats what the Pc lot get with being perfect....us mortals ....well we bow to your supremacy...

Edit. Actually I'm not going to bother, taking my own advice and ignoring posts such as this.

It's not being racist though, is it? It's purely making light of the accent in which the Chinese speak ENGLISH. Imagine how they'd laugh at an Englishman's attempt to speak Chinese/Mandarin, now that would be funny.
I work in Doncaster and get mocked everyday for my Barnsley accent, it's just a laugh.
Aren't us Brits supposed to be world renowned for our ability to laugh at ourselves and not be so uptight?

I would agree that it's not necessarily* racist but that doesn't mean that I agree it is funny though. Maybe one or two in isolation might be (or from someone you know well such as a mate or close work colleague) but it seems worse when it's a lot of people all together becoming more exaggerated each time. As I said, not racist but also not funny (in my opinion).

*I put not necessarily as it would depend on the thinking of each person which I obviously can't tell through a written post on a message board. If they are saying it as a joke and have no ill feelings at all towards Chinese people then it's just not funny but not racist. If they are making said joke because they think they are better than Chinese people then yes it is racist. As I can't tell either way I'll take it at face value and presume that it is just a bad joke but not a racist one.

My next question would have been why.....but theres a fine line....which gets crossed some times...all about opinions....the difference is in the way you react and deliver your reply....you cant argue it both ways.....
That said.....hopefully we will agree to disagree...
No more preaching on both our parts.

It's not skin colour or religion or even ethics being brought into question here. It's an accent. Simple as that. Think Dee dar for a close to home non malicious example.

I also don't think the Dee Dar stuff is funny either though. Different people find different things funny, I'm not saying that they are being malicious (as I said, taking it at face value), I just don't find it funny. I also don't think they would go up to a Chinese person in the street and say it which means they perhaps know it's not quite as funny as they are making out.

Funnily enough, I'm not actually defending it. Just putting it into perspective. Your posts are always sensible and reasoned and I read with interest. But, there is a comedy element on here too. Can't escape that, and why would we want to, can often lighten the mood.

I asked a Chinese girl for her number.

She replied, "Sex! Sex! Sex! Free sex tonight!"

    I said, "Wow!"

Then her friend said, "She means 6663629."

    Apologies, Benny Hill.

Not sure anyone mocking Chinese people's accents would do so to the face of someone of Chinese origin and that's always been my rule if it's OK to say it about someone you should be OK to say it to someone.

As for funny not for me but then again people laugh at Miranda and Mrs Browns Boys.

Laughing at the way people speak is nothing more than disgusting racism. That's why I go straight to HR whenever somebody says "BAAAAAAARNSLEY" after I tell them where I'm from. It's just not on.

Exactly my point. As stated earlier maybe I shouldn't have used the word racist. But still think some of the comments are highly offensive. As people seem to think the best response to my comments is to make another offensive comment I'm going to take jamdrop's advice and try my best to ignore this thread for now. Happy Chinese new year everybody.

There's one in our neck of the woods called Rice for King!
Seen it advertised on the telly a few times, I'm sure the owner has done it on purpose.

Also both our new neighbours are Chinese and I think I made one of the casual racist comments to them
although aimed at myself for looking the same as the rest of the Caucasian race.
Nowt wrong with a bit of piss take to break the ice :)
I then got invited over to one neighbours house and then the other brought his wife and little girl over
to ours the same day for tea and biscuits.
