I think people are seriously downplaying her achievement in winning the US Open.

She won a grand slam championship without dropping a set! Has anyone else ever done that? Male or female? From memory the vast majority of those sets weren’t even close either. It was bonkers, cheat code stuff.

A ridiculous achievement for anyone never mind an 18 year old. I don’t watch tennis at all and even I watched her semi final and final matches because it was proper sporting history.

To spend even ‘only’ 2 weeks absolutely hammering the best players in the world isn’t down to luck. She’s had a shocking run of injuries since, hardly her fault.

If she is indeed made of weetabix, and achieves little else in the game, relatively speaking, that US Open victory alone commands respect. Because it would be completely impossible to do watch she did without a ridiculous amount of talent, dedication, belief and emotional intelligence. And she was 18!
