Not sure about either of those. I’m not a professional scout. By and large it’s fairly understandable that we are shopping abroad and looking to develop talent from the fringes of other Championship sides and below. It’s sensible given the inflated market and the ridiculousness of wages which we cannot and should not compete with. At the same time there has to be some flexibility built into things. It’s clear we need 2 central midfielders with experience an ability. In essence a replacement for Scowen and a replacement for Hourihane. Neither will be cheap and I think should have some sort of relevant experience. We came close to that sort of signing last season with a Morsy so it’s not impossible.
No you are right we should never sign a player who has played above the Northern Counties league or the age of 5.
No one talks like it’s your decision. Jesus wept Perhaps in this case a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. We can’t sign anyone with any kind of experience or readiness at this level because that’s what is let be known. What some are saying is that if we deliberately ignore any option beyond punts we will never know what we could bring in. You’re starting to try and be clever now saying folk don’t have a clue. Then you wonder....
Isthmian Counties League 1. Good call. And 5 is probably a bit over the hill let’s say no signings beyond unborn embryos. Just to be safe.
Who is criticising? And I know it’s hard for you but can’t you grasp the point that no one can suggest players as no one is privy to the Financial ins and outs Those in the know only know what is let out. The point is being made that if we don’t look at players outside of a defined scope we can never know what we could do....
Has anyone said we shouldn’t sign this fella? I’ve never heard of him but I don’t recall anyone saying he’s either a bad signing or that we shouldn’t sign him.
People have gone so far off track it’s unbelievable. I was talking about people’s opinions regarding who they find exciting as a signing due to the players previous reputation and experience. Someone said ‘meh’ regarding the name mentioned in this thread. The examples I gave in this thread of Lita and Treacy were considered BOX OFFICE signings. I went to the fans engagement. Danny Wilson said himself right at the end of the night we have box office players lined up. Lita and Treacy were the 2 who signed. Many, many people on this forum agreed that they were infact exciting signings. People literally thought they were bakers to perform. The names mentioned in this thread such as Vaz Te, O’Grady, Shackell, Hammill, Drinkwater, Long they were not Box office signings. They had a definite element of risk above them. Just like the players were signing now. People were not massively excited by these signings. All I was saying was who would people actually get excited about who they think we could realistically sign? The players who generally sound the most box office when we sign them are USALLY the biggest flops. I am not saying we should never sign players with experience. Of course we should if we think they’re good enough. What I am saying is the genuine box office and exciting names will usually be so far past it it’s embarrassing. As we have seen so often.
Not saying they have. Did i ever say we shouldn't sign anyone over 5 or not from the northern counties league. Or we shouldn't sign experience? I was just highlighting the ridiculous examples being provided.
I know. You can’t educated cheese as me Nan would say. I agree with the new policy. We should never sign anyone who has yet been born and has played any games at any level above the Ryman League. We have never signed a player over the age of 12 who is any good. We never have and never will it’s literally impossible. If you don’t get excited about signing a player you have never heard of and never seen play you are literally trying to knock down the walls of Oakwell All players who play in the Championship earn £30, 000 a week every single one except the ones that play for us who get paid in biscuits from Barry’s stash. All other clubs operating at Championship level are stupid for signing players with talent and experience. Signing a player from a team in your division is not signing an experienced player. Signing a player with experience of playing in the premiership is not signing a player who has played in the premiership. Signing Harewood and Scotland did in no way help us fight off relegation. Signing Adam Hammill in no way helped us get promoted.
