The media narrative of "blaming Russia" is tiresome. Other countries dont have the same prices, so it's just government propaganda.

The EU price cap on gas is £37 per mega watt hour.

The UK price cap is £263.79 per mega watt hour.

Help is so desperately needed. They set a precedent with Furlough, unfortunately the cost of the Covid response is still being felt and is partly responsible for this mess. The long Tory leadership contest which looked self-indulgent now looks insane.
Still we have known this has been coming for months and nothing has been done.

Martin Lewis is rightly very upset about all this.

Yes didn't see your post before I posted myself. It's just absolutely depressing that we have a silent government and basically just people like Martin Lewis trying to force them to act.

I was wrong, we do have a government and they have acted, decisively....

Energy price cap: people should consider cutting back on energy use, says Nadhim Zahawi (from The Guardian)

Not me, copied and pasted from elsewhere.

I used to work in the energy industry. Put bluntly OfGem are at best a symbolic entity when it comes to any issue of scale. Great on the small stuff but when it comes to things like the cap they're effectively pointless.

Friend on mine works in data analysis in OfGem and my understanding is that they make recommendations but don’t have any power to enforce decisions etc

Brexit gives us freedoms to make independent decisions from EU so our Government has given the energy companies the freedom to charge the highest prices in Europe without fear of retribution from the European Union .
This alongside the sewage pollution etc is what the Government meant by taking back control .
For the few fork the many .

Calling it a cap is so misleading to some. There’s folk with four kids at home using double average consumption thinking they’re capped at 3.5k and panicking they can’t afford that - blissfully unaware that as they use double the average their ‘cap’ is actually nearly 7k (given they don’t need to pay standing charge twice).

Scary times. And they’re saying the ‘cap’ is going to be over 5k by April. It’s a national crisis. People are going to die.

It certainly is. Creates a huge challenge for small businesses too, loads will go under without support
