Where did I say that and let’s actually be honest about the golden generation.. we had a good 11 that disliked one another and that was it we had players like Trevor Sinclair and Danny mills no left winger coming off the bench now we have an unbelievable squad of players that should in no way be managed by Gareth Southgate!! Tell me this would you swap Southgate with VAL??

This is the team I'd pick.

Henderson (I'm not keen on Pickford)
Walker, Stones, Mings (if Maguire isn't fit)
    James, Mount, Phillips, Chilwell
    Saka, Kane, Foden

Not sure he’ll start with five players who were involved in the champions league final tonight. Suspect he’ll also make many changes over the 90 mins

The fact that we've got Phillips in two or three of the proposed line-ups in this thread shows how lacking we really all. Blessed with talent going forward and out wide, but other than Mount we're really weak in the middle of the pitch.

and Kieffer Moore and Adam Roberts are in the Wales squad. (Reports that Bale may retire after this tournament.)

Giggs done a brilliant job getting them to the Euro Championships - a travesty for him and a blow to the country that he's been suspended.

probably bring in Ricketts for Smith, Sinton for Anderton and Keith Curle for Keown.

^^THIS^^. Even when we weren't winning tournaments before we have had a decent midfield, no one anywhere near a Robson or Ince. I really think we'll be lucky to get out of the group.

I’d play rice and Bellingham, he look quality against city in the champions league this season I rate Phillips too though

I know he plays for Leeds, but i think you're doing him a bit of a disservice really. Decent deep lying playmaker, can ping a pass and doesn't shirk a challenge. He's no Steven Gerrard, sure, but I think he's probably on par with David Batty, and definitely better than Eric Dier.

Would have taken Ward-Prowse over one of the 4 right backs to bolster central midfield.

Played almost every minute of every league game for the last two seasons. Good passer of the ball and free kick taker around the edge of the box.

Is it though? He's a crap manager and an even worse person.

He's not performed well in a single England game so far so nothing suggests he should be in the Starting XI for the opening game of a major tournament. A lot of his 'pings' didn't hit their target and having him in the side makes us even more defensive than a Rice/Henderson combination. Rice can play a bit and drive forward, but having Phillips in there slows us down.

He's nowhere near as good as David Batty mate. Sorry

Depends on formation. I'm not sure we really know what Bellingham's best position is within this England setup and formation, so would be a lot of pressure in such an important position. Less pressure when in your own familiar environment like Dortmond.

I can't say I'm enthusiastic about our chances, but then I contradict myself and think we should win it. Flip. Flop.

    A travesty?

We'll see what happens at his court case.

Have to see how it goes, but I'd be playing him in a central two with Mount. I'd say that's more offensive than Rice/Henderson.
It might be the way football has moved on since the 90s, but I don't think Batty would get in the England squad now.

You're comparing a Premier League winner to Kalvin Phillips and saying the latter is better. Phillips has squeaked in to this squad because of how poor we are in the centre of the pitch.

Batty would walk in to this England team and he'd bring more out of the attacking players around him. We sleepwalk through games in midfield when we put two defensive players in there, but at least if Batty was one of those there'd be no sleep walking.

It doesn't matter which players are picked, they will spend most of the game passing along the back line, into the defensive midfield then back to the defenders.
