    Nice point
    Good shout either way.
Would be nice if they could share.
Possibly root given the position we were in when Bairstow got out.

Brilliant, simply brilliant from Root and nice to get the win. To think the state this team would be in without Root's contributions. We have to start developing batsman that can contribute.

It's about having a positive mindset. positive in defence and positive in stroke-making and that's what Cook would have meant when talking about scoring off every ball. If you don't do that you are a sitting duck just waiting to get out. When the bad ball comes they just don't score off it.

We've seen with Anderson and Broad, it doesn't matter what the scoreboard says they just don't like to concede runs at all.

Well it’s nice to be wrong. Once we let NZ set a total of over 200 I expected us to lose and was convinced we had lost when Stokes was bowled yesterday afternoon. Very costly no ball that. Well played the England Bowlers and Root

Breaking news. ROOT has been dropped for the next match.
President of MCC. " Joe you didn't follow the bleeding strategy"
Root." But the rest of the board said. **** him"
    Plans afoot to remove president.

All a bit straight forward today for England :D Foakes did his job of protecting Root from the tail. Joseph Edward Root now joins an elite club of 14 to reach 10,000 test runs.

    Chuffed for Root.

World class and great character following losing the captaincy.

At 69-4 in the seconf innings i expected us to fold like a deck of cards.

Nice to get a rare test win.

Well, I never thought we were capable of chasing 270+. Big slice of luck with the Stokes no-ball for sure, Root was immense. Again though, we relied on Root and Stokes and Broad and Anderson. Big positive was Potts, but we need to find more batsmen and hope that some of our injured bowlers come back, Foakes performance today just underlines the fact we stuck with butler for at least 1/2 dozen test matches after he should have been dropped.

With not wanting to appear pedantic.
Re the luck. I see it differently. The decision was right, using modern technology and 3rd umpire.
Given out. would have made him unlucky and the bowler lucky. and I reckon that would have been a general consensus. Cricket is the only game (possibly tennis included) in my view where modern technology works fully.

    Agree
Can’t recall the series but Foakes got his chance a few years ago and performed good as stumper and batter ( he got a ton ).
He got an injury which kept him out of next series and it took a while to get reselected.
He’s here to stay now I think.
He has the temperament and technical ability to bat higher

Nice bit of symmetry with Root's targets today. How did he manage to work it that he needed exactly a hundred runs to get to that 10,000 milestone? Incredible really and as if celebrating a hundred at Lords wasn't enough he got the extra plaudits for the other target.

Great day for Root in particular and English cricket in general. NZ are the top of the world at the moment and we blew them away in the end. The result was never in doubt

Our first three in the batting order and the repeated injuries to our bowlers ( stress fractures ?? ) are our immediate points of concern.
Broad and Anderson are to be replaced soon from at least half a dozen injured very good bowlers but when ?
