Not sure what Crawley has done to keep his spot. One 50+ score in 8 innings. Id have took a punt on the in form Ben Compton. Pope at 3 makes no sense. Sibley would have been my choice at this moment in time. Brook deserves his call up but knowing the ECB he wont be in the 11 nor will Potts.
The irony is it's supposed to be a re-set but it's anything but. The same players that have failed before just a different order.
I agree about Crawley but to be fair to him, he got a century in the last series so he should keep his place a bit longer. Also, he’s still living off his 250+ two years ago. He’s still young and has a bit of style so let’s hope he’s more consistent and we’re not right plentiful without openers !!
I’m pretty certain Brook won’t play and Potts will battle it out vs Overton for the 3rd seamer spot. One thing I can’t fathom is that if Pope is going to bat 3 for England, why hasn’t he been batting at 3 this season for Surrey to get him prepped for it.
4 Root 5 Brook 6 Stokes 7 Bairstow (wk) That's a decent middle order, the problem is the first three.
If they've put Brook in the squad he needs to play. The kid is on fire for Yorkshire and the absolute last thing he needs at this point is a month sat around not getting a game with England.
Potentially the biggest error for the selectors could be to play Pope at 3, a position he’s never played. Most pundits seem to think he’ll play at the expense of Brook but I can’t think of any reason he should !
Only few days to go and consensus of media opinion says Brook won’t start ! The selecters must find a place for him surely. His figures speak for themselves
Apparently, if Brook isn’t picked to play on Thursday, he should be released to play for Yorkshire on Friday night
It's the right team based on the squad picked. Brook deserves his chance but the problem he has is that he is competing in England's strongest area of batting. He's not displacing Root or Stokes and Bairstow has done superbly since his recall so can't be dropped. Puts a lot of pressure on Bairstow to continue to perform now though which can only be a good thing.
https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/cricket/lords-empty-seats-jubilee-tickets-27109455 It's no wonder there will be thousands of empty seats at them prices. They can blame the Jubilee all they want but Lords are out of touch thinking over hundred quid for a day at the Cricket is appropriate the week after the government have had to dish out billions to help the nation.
Sorry state of England cricket, throwing a lad into a vital batting slot with no previous experience. I'd have gone with an in form Duckett or told Root to suck it up...
