It's about the 5 finishers we have on the bench. Keep it tight for 60 mins then get the Ferrari's with skill off the bench running at tired legs.
I think with the heat and the fact most of the players haven't had much of break, this may be the way to go. So far barring Italy no other teams have shown much quality or staying power. Belgium looked good but were steady, mainly because Russia were so poor.
Maybe I'm just not a fan of playing two holding midfielders maybe thats the logic but for me.go.for it from the off its one of the best squads we have had.for years. Playing a right back.at left back over shaw who has had a great season is poor aswell. I think there's one man who will hold us back in this tournament and its Mr southgate.
I think Kalvin Phillips has just proven that it's unfair to pigeon hole him as a holding midfield player.
I didn’t agree with Southgate’s selection in terms of Trippier at left back & what I thought was two holding midfielders but it worked. Trippier’s balls over the top caused constant problems & Phillips showed he’s more than just a holding midfielder. One thing that has baffled me has been the calls for Foden, Grealish, Mount & Kane to all start. You’ve literally got no out ball with that system, everyone coming deep. One of Sterling, Sancho & Rashford had to start & they did & it was a good out ball for us. I think Grealish is becoming one of these players that gets overrated because he doesn’t play for one of the big boys like Noble & Drinkwater & others have in the past. Everyone likes him but if he played for Man Utd, City, Liverpool etc he’d get a lot more hammer off of fans. He’s a very good footballer but I don’t see how anyone can argue he deserves a start over Foden or Mount given the season they’ve both had.
