Its been the way for some time. No such thing as soft hands anymore or knowing where your off stump is. Seems pointless having a bland top order trying to make them bat time when they just haven't got good enough technique to do it.
I still think Pope has the ability, but form is eluding him. Crawley can't live off that one innings for much longer. Malan should be seriously considered for the ashes tour, if not the India series. But I think Hameed is ahead of Lyth in the pecking order, not an attacking player, but has far more scoring options than Sibley.
Probably. Buttler and Stokes likely back next test. Looks a whole lot better with them two in. Another opener or no3 required.
What's a good score on this pitch? If sun comes out tomorrow it will probably be like a road no doubt.
Can't believe Jimmy wasn't hammering at Root's door this morning to bowl first. Stone can swing it, Wood would get it moving and hooping around and Broad is due another purple patch.
Edgbaston does turn though. Which is why I don't understand the selection, again omitting a front line spinner.
You would hope for that when you win toss and bat 1st wouldn't you. Have to see what happens next innings England bowling is their strongest suit.
The whole balance of the team is off. All this talk of concentrating on winning all the tests seems a smokescreen. They only have eyes for the T20 World Cup.
I don't think of Edgbaston ever being a pancake of a pitch, it usually offers something for bowlers pf all types for most of the game. I think as its stands, anything over 300 is a bonus given the dreadful top order effort again, then see if Jimmy & Co can cause problems.
I've always felt if you pick your bowlers for their batting ability, you're focussing on the wrong thing.
Fortunately work got in the way of following the cricket this afternoon so I missed Braceys splendid knock. Am I right in thinking he is supposed to be a batsman who is at best an average wicket keeper? He looks as good a batsman as Crawley at the moment. Is Bairstow availlable for the next test or Buttler
