Not so sure of the figures as they pan out re tournaments, which have increased substantially. What with the european nations league. Or whatever that tournaments called alongside the euro qualifiers. (Replacing friendlies in the main) But going on % wins, the top 10 are very much the same. Capello coming out on top by 5% over the next. All around the 60% mark. Now we are getting to the last stages I might start to watch But I wouldnt put it b4 summat else i may fancy doing. Cos tbh I get nothing but frustration. (I can and have to on many occasions put up with Barnsley. but not England I'm afraid) watching what bits I have done over the last umpteen yrs. to fear the same throughout an entire game. Still want us to win though.
That stat I quoted was just Euros and World Cups. We've won since knockout games since 1966 - Southgate has now won 7. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.da...areth-Southgate-England-record-Euro-2024.html
Heard a gem on the radio earlier. "Southgate seems to be favouring a back three system with wing backs - it's clear a lot of his squad would suit playing this way" That's all well and good, but not a single member of the probably starting line up played in this formation last season.
Obviously this can be highly attacking or defensive move, we know which one it is in this case. expect to see 5-4-1 and not 3-5-2.
It’s barmy. Playing players out of position & in formations they barely play at club level alongside team mates they rarely play with. Just asking for trouble.
The opposite is true. If we play 4-2-3-1 as we have been doing against this Swiss team we’ll get beat comfortably. We need width and we need options to beat their press. It’s absolutely the right thing to do to switch to a 3-5-2. Whether he has the balls to do it for a quarter final having not played it so far remains to be seen
I think it'll be more a 3-4-3 with Foden and Bellingham supporting Kane, rather than 2 up top. Rice and Mainoo in the middle, with TAA and Saka as the wing backs.
I’m not saying it won’t work it might well do but I don’t feel like we’ve played 3 at the back for a long time & players like Trent never play it at club level & then you’ve got Saka who hasn’t played at wing back for several seasons. If they pull it off I’ll be happy to say well done to Southgate but it worries me.
