What is it with modern day football how did he think playing only 3 outfield player's who have a clue how to defend would end. The job has always been bordering on impossible but can you imagine managing that many egos, young men who are multi millionaires who it matters little if they succeed at international level.

Doesn't bother me either but he'll already have lost brownie points because of it. Too early to slag him off about the result imo. See if he improves things next game...

The England Football team need to take a look at the England Cricket teams current ethos of first make sure you're enjoying what you are doing, remember that you are supposed to entertain the fans and that you play to win and keep on the front foot at all times even when under pressure.

I get the impression that some people were just waiting for Carsley to fail because he's not a big name. He's got plenty of credit in the bank from previous displays and his record with the U21's. Last night was a big failed experiment, but fair play to him for having the balls to try something a bit different, knowing he'd take the flak for it if it backfired. Any long-term decision made purely off the back of last night would be ridiculously knee-jerk. It's on the same level as people coming on here and shouting for the Barnsley manager to be sacked, not every time we lose, but every time we concede a goal.

As both a republican and an atheist, absolutely no fcks given from me. Our national anthem is a load of outdated claptrap. Should be replaced with something more relevant to modern Britain.

It was rubbish, but it's still only one game. I'll judge him at the end of the Nations League campaign.

Until we get rid of this stupid mentality of trying to fit all our best individuals in one team we won’t win anything.

Rico Lewis isn’t even that good as a right back never mind trying to play him as a left back. He’s the modern day Phil Neville. Jack of all trades, master of none. Play Lewis Hall there. He was the best player on the pitch last week when Newcastle drew 2-2 with City.

As for the ‘false 9’. It’s stupid. The England team barely see each other, how many training sessions do they actually get together? You don’t try complex systems in international football. Inverted full backs & false 9’s are more for club football when you’re working with players day in, day out.

Play a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 with a left footed left back, tell Bellingham he’s in the team but will have to play a bit deeper to support Rice, Saka on the right, Gordon or Grealish on the left & then Palmer & Foden can battle it out for the number 10 spot behind Kane or Watkins.

Show some balls & pick a balanced team.

Yeah that's fair, but it does increase the pressure on us now as we go away to Finland next.
And we're now hoping that Greece might slip up in their remaining games!!.
It concerns me that after the way we all criticised Kane, for his poor fitness and performances in the Euros. We actually really missed him last night.

We've got a left back. Just the one. Southgate took him to the Euros. He's injured again.

Absolutely fair enough mate. I know there are plenty who won't agree with me, but I'm all for a reasoned and respectful discussion on the subject!

I can't speak for others but I have no personal angst against Carsley nor do I want any England manager to fail. However there seemed to be so many issues with the approach to the Greece game that it's inevitable that questions will be asked of his capabilities. Personally I feel we need to find a manager that knows how to organise a team with the players we have and find an identity to drive it forward. Carsley showed no signs of that and if his approach to this is just to throw a group of talented individual forward players into a starting line up, play players out of position, have no defensive game plan and think Lewis is the solution to LB then that's a lot to go wrong.... and it did. Every game in international competitions count and isn't the place to experiment. Let's see what the response is on Sunday. Im hoping whoever becomes the permenant manager comes with a plan, not to trial and error their way forwards.
