There’s definitely similarities but where as Neil Collins & then Devaney can point to serious shortcomings in the squad that effect the formations you can play & the style of play you go with Southgate doesn’t have them excuses. He can literally pick anyone bar Ben White & has lots of different attackers that allow you to play various systems. There’s no excuse for England to be this dull.
Correct. Maguire's threat at attacking set pieces has still been a massive miss this tournament. Gerrard and Scholes were consistently dreadful for England despite their club form but we made the mistake of keep trying to shoehorn them in and as a result had zero success in that era. Foden's had 30 odd appearnaces now for England and offered next to nothing. Time to give others a chance.
Yeah I think the same Rich, and I've said that on here as well recently. And actually, I don't thnk a tournament is a good or bad one, just based on what we/England do. I actually enjoyed America '94 a lot more than I thought I would, and we didn't even qualify for it.
I must admit, I love seeing these fan zone areas!. When the beer has been drunk (just a little bit lol), and it also gets splashed all over the place.
And here's the last time we played Schweisse (Switzerland), which was in the Nations League 3rd place match. And they had a very nice looking Barnsley style kit on the day.
I think that's actually a bit harsh. Plenty of players in the current England side come across as extremely bright and articulate. Rice, Bellingham, Kane, TAA, Stones, Saka, Guehi, Gordon just off the top of my head.
These lads seem to think we've been rotten for 4 games. I completely agree! Its crazy when you actually see our squad on paper you know.
Southgate most successful England manager since Ramsey. Unarguable. Players have performed pretty well or very well since 2018. By and large the fans have got behind the team over that period and reconnected. We can play some really great football. Currently we are producing garbage and muddling through. Lack of Gordon playing wide left to balance the attack is a mystery to me. But Southgate gets credits for what has gone before. I remember what it used to be like for the most part from 1974 (didn't qualify) until 2018 with the merest flash in the pan (1990) to entertain us or a short term revival (1996). And we didn't qualify for the USA in between. So I bite my lip.
