I was surprised Toney got selected ahead of Solanke to be honest.

I would have taken Tyrick Mitchell also o er an unfit Luke Shaw. A left footed left back just to give some balance plus he has been capped before for England.

I listened to a podcast today that said the quarter finals are a month away - which should be time to get Shaw fit. But I agree about Mitchell - madness we only took one left footer.

We'll end up playing Foden wide left as he's the only left footer who's played out there - and it negates his creative strength

Back to the days of shoehorning Scholes into the side by playing him in the left wing so that we can have both Gerrard and Lampard in the side. That always ended well...

James Maddison 1st of the 7 to be cut from the squad, thought he'd had a decent season for Spurs, Southgate has never really fancied him

Started the season really well, got injured and was so so after lengthy break.

We've so many options in that position, one of Southgate's easier calls.

He was never going to play was he?

He’s behind all of Foden, Palmer & Bellingham for a no. 10 spot, I’d play all of Saka, Palmer & Foden on the right ahead of him & all of Gordon, Grealish & Foden on the left ahead of him.

He might have a bit of a gripe if Eze gets in the final squad but even then Eze’s been in great form recently but even Eze’s not likely to see much football if he goes.

Others I think will be cut from the provisional 33

    Trafford
    Quansah
    Branthwaite
    Konsa
    Jones
    Gordon

Maddison was never going to the Euros, so I don't blame him quitting the squad before the 7 cuts were officially announced at the same time. I don't get why Southgate would waste our last friendly picking someone he had no intension of taking.

The fact he was set to start suggests that there was at least a chance of him displacing someone (presumably Eze) and he's thrown his teddy out of the pram or bottled it. I wouldn't call him up again after that.

Think he knows his England career is probably over as we move on with the next generation.

    Trafford
    Quansah
    Jones
    Maddison
    Bowen
    Toney

are the 6 I’m confident get cut from the squad.

The 7th one depends on Shaw’s fitness. He either gets cut or if they think he can make it then I think they send either Dunk or Branthwaite home

Sending Bowen home would be stupid. Agree with the rest. Braithwaite I don't think will male the cut.

Watkins doesn't impress me at all considering his goal tally at Villa. He seem very lightweight. I have seen quite a few England strikers who just couldn't cut it at International level.

Given that squads are now 26 instead of 23 I think Southgate will take all 3 strikers.

I agree about Bowen. I would send Eze home but I think Southgate’s a big fan of his

I just can’t see him using Toney. I think we’re more likely to go with a Gordon or Foden through the middle than Toney if Kane or Watkins weren’t available

Maddison, Jones and Trafford cut so far. I thought I’d read that Quansah had too.
