Woeful to a man. The pundits like jill scott dont arf talk ******. Gordon had a fantastic game. Did he. He played ok 3 or 4 decent runs, a woeful finish and final ball was poor, yet he was fantastic.

Adam Wharton needs to start. I know most fans haven’t seen much of him but the kids special. I’ve watched him boss the midfield in games against Liverpool, West Ham, Newcastle & Man Utd recently & he stood out every time. He is far better than Gallagher or Mainoo are or ever will be in there & more importantly he’s got the defensive attributes to complement Rice & give the defence the protection they need. I think it took bravery from Southgate to pick such an inexperienced player but I think he now needs to go one further & start him when it matters.
I'm still disappointed though Jack, with that tonight. Even though I do agree with you, and I'm telling myself that the tournament begins next week, etc!.
I think it was more that he was picking the right options. Many of the players (especially Foden & Palmer) were getting in each others way, taking too many touches & not stretching the pitch but Gordon was continually making the right decisions even if his final ball / shot wasn’t always up to scratch.
Why do people even get wound up about things, a game that was so important I completely forgot it was on! How the hell they get folk to pay to go to watch them is beyond me, it's a glorified training session, just a kick about by players not wanting to get injured before the tournament even begins. Not that I am expecting great things when it does start, but that’s the time to start taking things seriously not now.
1 - It was a friendly, which was to all intents and purposes, meaningless. 2 - Talking of friendlies, I remember watching an absolutely diabolical Barnsley display at Chesterfield in a friendly in the summer of 1996 - the rest is history. 3 - My beer fridge is full of an excellent range of craft IPA's, strength 6% and upwards. 4 - Conor Hourihane is a Barnsley player again.
I can't say I've kept track in the last 5 years or so but I always found it it funny and curious that Barnsley's performance in friendlies seemed pretty much inversely proportional to how we'd end up doing in the proper season
I think I remember one of the mad Keef Hill pre seasons, where we won all of the friendlies!. And I think this also included a 0-5 win away at Scunnythorpe.
I actually thought tonight's performance was very forward if that makes sense. It was just woeful. France, Germany and co would have been laughing their pop Rin pears off at that. As I did the Welsh result against Gibraltar. Lesson learnt and apologies for offending people with my comments. I won't be backing England for the Euros though. It was a friendly but way Palmer fluffed his lines twice tonight was frightening. He bottled it twice. You can't do that in tournament football. He should be going there after scoring three goals in two games. Instead he's bouyed by his selection but with doubt.
