Why is it that a high percentage of foreign players that come to the premier league say they struggle with the pace and intensity but yet we think when it comes to international football that slowing the game down and passing it side to side will make us successful and difficult to play against.
Why play 2 holding mids against Scotland, surely 1 holding and 2 going forward.

Quite right. And this isn’t a negative on the back of a bore draw as I didn’t expect much else. But we play ‘safe’, boring and uninventive football. When we are in possession, 99% of the time, you can predict where the ball will be played and it’s very rarely a searching, defence splitting forward pass.
For us, Mowatt, and before him, Hourihane would collect the ball 25 yards out and the fans would urge them to shoot. Could be a row Z shot or a worldie of a goal, but it is excitement.
It’s why Gaza’s goal gets played over and over again because it was spectacular. We play too safe to ever produce spectacular.
Scotland aren’t out of this, but if they don’t get out of the group, they will know they gave it their best. As for us, the pride and passion seems to have gone.

Through out the squad we have real pace, but don’t seem to want to make the most of it. I could understand the two holding midfielders if the remit was to attack at pace, but with the current approach like you say no need for two holding midfielders.
    Bizarre.
