I think what @Red Rain has done, is try to quantify the quality of the football that has been played, which imo is a different to how entertaining it was. The quality of football played is one factor to entertainment, but there is also the context of the game and sequence of events which contribute to the drama.

Best example I can think of is the last game of last season. The fact that it was the last game, one team fighting relegation the other going for promotion will have all added to the spectacle for neutrals. Had the exact same game happened, even the week before, there would've been some raised eyebrows but not the same entertainment value.

Another example is the two Liverpool - Newcastle games in the 90s, which both finished 4-3. The first game is considered one of the most entertaining games ever in the PL. The second game seen as a poor imitation of a sequel. The first game was in the context of a title race, and the sequence of events with the lead changing hands a few times all added to the drama. The following year, a game was still entertaining and had the drama of a last minute winner, but not as good as the game before. Had a game had the same events happen, but in a different order, which led to the last goal being a consolation goal, this scoring would've been the same, but entertainment would've been far less.

Fully agree. The headline of the thread is ‘entertainment. My point is that looking at your examples they weren't measured in a numerical way they were measured by the ‘customer experience’. Ive seen entertaining 0-0. Seems like we agree.
