It's probably that they wouldn't want to spend their working hours with a racist like yourself.

I get fed up of having to defend my town and football club to my black friends because of the reputation that we have for racism. To be honest some of the postings I see on here I wonder am I really doing the right thing because there does exist a nasty undercurrant of racism.

I hvae to ask myself if I was black or asian would I feel welcome at Oakwell or reading this message board. I know the racists are a minority but they do seem pretty vocal.

Before anyone starts with the PC brigade malarkey that is just a smoke screen so that people can justify being offensive and when they are challenged they can throw that back as some kind of insult. Well if having respect makes me PC then I'm proud to say that I am.

Another thing it isn't the so called PC brigade who post the contentious and offensive postings. We just get the stick for challenging them.

    Hold on a minute

"theyd make more than a fair number or is it me whos racist?
and before anyone as a go at me what happened to freedom of speech or our human rights we havent even got the right to fly our national flag for fear of upseting em."

Errr you are the one that straight away jumped up with the racist card and the freedom of speech. Yes they would make up a number and stating that would not be racist

In the words of Monty Python.....

'Lucky i didn't mention the dirty fork'. I daresay there a few ****-er-neys left (loads have moved out to the fringes methinks), but it was just a post that was started to show how many supporters could possibly be backing their nation in London during the World Cup. Blimey!
Down here you see all sorts of nationalities flags hanging out of flat windows and cars.

Yeah, sure, that must be it

Asians don't like hard work. Renowned for it. Never see them working all hours to build a business up or studying hard to get a good start in life.

If you've not met many on building sites it's probably because people with similar views to those you express in this thread don't hire them. So they set themselves up in business, work hard, become successful and incur the wrath of the great British public for doing so.

RE: Yawn... Not the old turban chestnut

Nice one mate. The people of this town (mainly older ones, sadly) are very insular, suspicious of outsiders (ie anyone whos not white or English) and not very nice sometimes. Im glad we've a multicultural national football team to support,am glad to see Monty Panesar and Saj Mahmood in our multicultural national cricket team. And to all the racist arseholes on this board and elsewhere, does anyone know what racial origins Michael Chopra has? I think you might find he has Asian parents.

    Yep

I realise what your thread was about - and as soon as I read your initial post I realised it was just meant to show numbers that could be supporting their team in world cup - unfortunately "Betty Swallocks" then chose to turn it into something else.

I must read postings more closely - your last line I didn't read the word "flag" at first so it just read "Down here you see all sorts of nationalities hanging out of flat windows and cars" :pff

Was talking to a mate about this last night. He was shocked about some of the stuff that gets on here. Does give us a bad name like.

    90,000 Swedes?

    Surely not? 100,000 Spaniards?

RE: the town is perceived to be quite racist.

typical story doing the rounds: "Did you hear about the supermarket in Huddersfield where all the moslem customers complained about the number of England flags on display, the store removed the flags and all the white customers walked out in protest"

If you challenge that crap then its always "well it was a mates mate who heard it from his neighbours brother"

Point is that people are willing to believe such rubbish

I believe you have to challenge racism

    RE: 90,000 Swedes?

I was more shocked at only 75,000 Italians. I would have thought there would have been more.
Anyway; on another nore, i ain't uppity about owt, and mr Eaststander's misinterpretation was well funny. I also fully agree with the right to fly our flag and be patriotic and its the politically correct tits that make evrything bad - i reckon this is so to keep some of the tits in a job?? The funny thing is that the Jamaicans, Italians etc that i know/have met in all my years cannot understand why we are not allowed to celebrate being English.

Right then... i'm off to watch the Sweden game.
