I'm sure my mates would try and get flights back to help. And I'm in. I saw one of them for only the first time in 5 years last month because of this policy.

    No worries mate.

There is never an appropriate point to capitalise words within a sentence if you need to do that you are clearly insecure about your ability to make your point which is unsurprising.

I'm an economic researcher though not relevant in this context, You clearly have no interest in anyone's opinions or voice other than your own which is sad. Mario Kempes for example I rarely agree with but he is open to other people's opinions and listens to them rather than trying to shout them down. Again just because you don't feel the IFS is a neutral organisation doesn't make it fact. I can locate evidence from many think tanks on all parts of the political spectrum but clearly if they didn't agree with your narrow world view you would seek to dismiss them.

    Cheers mate.

Train down late Saturday afternoon and then train back Monday morning. Staying at my mate's in Shepherds Bush and roped him in to coming to the game too. I was offered a lift there and back in a day with my parents but politely declined in preference of 2 nights out. You?

I'm game, though I've got quite a busy schedule so she'll have to come to us. Do you think she'll be up for coming to any bars or clubs if we invite her? The sour faced old cow looks as though she could do with letting her hair down.

I think the Tories split along ideological lines around the issue of how to emesh the working classes some believe that appeals to one nation nationalism others favour than economic engagement as you outlined I did some research stuff for some fairly right wing pressure groups a bit back ( I know but the bills don't pay themselves...) and they are fairly clear that dismantling employment 'protection red tape' is something they want to do post Europe.

    And they keep changing it.
The income regulations weren't in force when I brought my American wife over, and the process was fairly quick. It's cost about £3,000 though with first the spousal visa, then ILR (Indefinate Leave to Remain) and finally last year she got Citizenship just so they can't shift the goalposts once again on her.

"There is never an appropriate point to capitalise words within a sentence if you need to do that you are clearly insecure about your ability to make your point which is unsurprising. " Hmmm. never realized capitalisation indicated insecurity but hey-ho you must also be a qualified psychiatrist to pull that one out of the hat.

Your assertion that the IFS is neutral is also your opinion, in truth I never stated anywhere that I know it not to be the case, simply saying a number of people believe that given the background of many of those involved it veers towards the establishment. I honestly don't know if that is true or not.

I wonder if you would be quite so..ahem...forthright (read 'rude') if you were not using the internet. You are quite aggressive in your responses and ssem to take things personally. Also you did not tell me what 'dog whistle politics ' is.

Actually if I did not want to canvas opinions I would not have posted the original OP which was exactly what I was seeking - others peoples views backed up by facts. I too studied economics to degree level albeit Keynsian economics which was the main theory at the time (showing my age). I am very interested in other people's view -at least those who are not so abrasive when they disgree with you. As for shouting people down - Where have I done that?

Economic researcher... What exactly IS that? I have heard of Economic research analysts . Is that the same thing? Just curious.

Can we draw a line under this? If I have upset you - which I clearly have I apologise. I really am not, in spite of what you seem to think, the person you appear to think I am from my posts as I am always interested too hear other people's views u to where they become rude when they are contradicted..

You haven't upset or irritated me in the slightest. We live in a world of the easily offended and I'm not one of them. I say what I think in real life just as I do on here. You take yourself a bit too seriously but that's your choice.

As fo wanting to canvass opinion the language used and aggressive attitude to anyone who questions you suggests the exact opposite. Hence dog whistle politics.

Here's a fairly rubbish description of dog whistle politics. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog-whistle_politics

I work on a freelance basis providing research and (I think the latest phrase is policy dynamics) to various groups and institutions. In the last year I've worked for the Greens, Demos a couple of Universities and a couple of authors. You do the donkey work In terms of research they take the credit.

Like I say nothing you have said offends me or impacts either positively or negatively so nothing to draw a line under.

Mmm. well there's never been a "neutral" press (and in any event their power now is less rather than more, given the myriad ways that people pick up their information these days).

And it still seems to me bizarre for the individuals of this country to have to rely on faceless Europeans to save them from their own Government's laws.

After all, how many of us vote in Euro elections, as opposed to General Elections?

Sod democracy eh? If it suits.

Do we have a democratic system fit for purpose?

Well I was all for PR but it lead ballooned. Plus I thought the coalition did well in dodgy circumstances. But I hope I'm right when I prefer decisions about my life to be taken as near as possible to where I live.

And certainly not in a chamber that quite frankly very few over here knows the slightest thing about.

Agree with this, well most of it. I too believed that the coalition did well in dodgy circumstances, and would have been Ok with having another this time around. It was frustrating at times as the Lib Dems put the block on a number of policy areas that I would have been happy to progress, but that was the point of them being there for me, despite my disliking of just about every one of them. They smoothed out the sharper edges of Tory policy.

I am not unhappy that PR bombed - it is certainly more representational than what we have, but I am not keen on its ability to give extremists a platform. I don't know the answer as to what the right democratic system would be though as none are without their flaws. Perhaps AV would have actually worked?

What I agree 100% on is the view that I prefer decisions about my life to be taken in a chamber that I know something about, that is populated with representatives that we as a nation can change. I know we vote for our Euro MP, but if we wildly changed political colours in EU elections en masse, it would still only affect the percentage of the chamber that is made up of Euro MPs from our country. The rest of them, a majority of the parliament, we can do nothing about but their decisions still affect us every day. Not for me, that ta.
