If it’s an isolated mistake by someone with a good track record at the club I wouldn’t want them sacking but if it’s someone who’s made a series of balls up & had involvement in some of the examples Super Tyke cites then they’d probably have to go. It’s more the frustration of so many different **** ups over the last couple of seasons than this incident for me.
Genuinely interested to know if you've got any examples of genuine, humble mistakes from people that has led to their employment being ended.
Glad I don’t work with most of the people on this board. There should be an investigation and processes put in place to ensure it doesn’t happen again. If deemed necessary the person responsible should be reprimanded, but there’s absolutely no need for somebody to lose their job if this is the only major error on their record. In fact, do you really think this person would make the same mistake again? Or are they more likely to ensure that mistakes like this never happen again? In my experience when someone makes a big **** up at work, they learn and grow from it. Why would you toss them out when you could reap the benefits of that? It goes without saying that if this is the latest in a string of big errors or this person is doing a poor job generally then a different action is probably appropriate.
To recruit a new permanent member of staff generally costs ~£5-10k plus training costs, etc. while this is a catastrophic mistake that has cost the club reputation and financial damage, unless the processes are fixed there is nothing to stop it happening again. For a single mistake , it’s better to fix things and move on. And I’ve worked with people that have made far bigger mistakes at work - including at least one costing £50m - that have kept their jobs. I’ve worked with people that have lost their jobs for little mistakes - although 3 of them won employment tribunals.
People don't normally fail, processes do. People only know what they know and can only do what they can do. Something has obviously broken & can't happen again, but it's not the end of the world. We'd have lost to Sutton anyway.
Had the name of the club not initially been named you could bet your bottom dollar.a lot of our supporters would have guessed correctly that it would have been us. The gift that keeps on giving. Just one gigantic PR cockup after another.
Plus if you sack someone for a single mistake you create a culture of fear where people are afraid to make decisions or take responsibility and less likely to own up to their mistakes when they do happen and try to conceal them which only leads to bigger problems down the line.
I don't think its just this incident that (ridiculously embarrassing as it is ) has got folk riled up to this extent , more its the straw that has broken the camels back for many, the rapid decline in performances after last year, the boring sterile style of play, inadequate recruitment, CEO being missing in action since God knows when, the list goes on ....and on
Imagine being really dillergent at your job at Oakwell but yet seeing stuff go off. Must be frustrating.
What I dont understand is there's probably about 10,000 people who follow barnsley closely supporters and staff. How has not one person noticed that Aiden Marsh had already played in the FA cup, including himself?
Totally agree. I’ve seen some top people/staff make mistakes. They are gutted beyond words. They don’t even need telling - they know. They retain their jobs, as 99% of the time they are 100% better than anyone else for that role. I’ve seen mistakes cost thousands - but I also know over the years, they have saved/made the companies thousands. You back your good workers. If you don’t, they eventually leave and word gets around about it - so you can no longer attract the best. Nobody’s perfect. Conversely, if this is one of many mistakes, and they are truly incompetent anyway - then yes, they need to go.
He hasn’t. He was at York on loan when the first tie was played, but didn’t play for them in the Cup. By being unavailable in the first tie, he was ineligible in the replay. That said, whilst it passed alot of people by, I would definitely have expected our own admin systems and our coaching staff to have picked it up.
