I think you're right and the evidence seems to support that view. If I have a pint its usually in the Highstone Road WMC so its still relatively cheap or I might have a pre match pint in the Outpost every now and then but that's about my limit for drinking in pubs.
Me anall, Common club every Sat and Sun, Pig at other times, both privately owned and about £2.30 for a very good pint of Johns Smooth. Gizza clue who you are, we may know each other, I would be intrigued to see who thereev is,
You've obviously not been in the Dards recently. I went in it a while ago and I thought I was in a creche, I was probably the oldest on in there.
Which pubs have shut in Hemsworth recently HT? As a born and bred there, it'd be both sad and interesting to know
Was in the Rat & Ratchet in Huddersfield this evening....£2.20 for their house brewed ale....and a decent pint at that. Well impressed.
Mario Kempes..I understand why you feel ripped off with the price comparison, but the truth is you haven't been, pubs and clubs will pay from 90p to £1.30 per pint for ale,and about £1 to £1.50 per pint for lager depending on a number of factors....Alcohol By Volume,Brand and the supply tie that dictates an inflated price by many pub owning companies all play a part.If you look at a retail price of say £2.50,the government has 50pence in VAT straight away, The cost of Rent and Rates, massive Insurance hikes, and huge rises in License costs introduced by Gordon Brown, the fact that many pubs are forced to employ doorstaff these days, the heating and lighting costs that are not incurred by Supermarkets to the same degree, but the basic difference is buying price,I recently saw Carlsberg Lager being retailed by one of the major supermarkets at 54p per pint,(the VAT on that being 10.8 p),very few pubs can buy it wholesale at two and a half times that price, unless a government is prepared to act against the Supermarkets and multi national brewers who are prepared to dump beer as a loss leader I can see nothing more than the death of the traditional British Pub in a very short time. The Irony is, that by not acting, the Govt is losing billions in VAT alone.
Think yourselves lucky!!! It's about $7/pint here (that's about £4.50) when you factor in tax and the obligatory tip of 10-15%. Happy Hour (before 7pm during the week and all-day Sundays) at our local brew-pub is $4.95 for a pint (+tax+tip). Can't wait to get to the Miner's Rest at Old Town at Christmas and drink some half-price beer!!!
Get yourself over to Singapore for some proper prices Almost everything is $10+ , if you you want something exotic like Erdinger its going to be $15-16+ which is around 8 quid equivalent .......
Was back home July/August and I am sure all the ones on Cross Hills are still open, I think most of the ones elsewhere have shut already. Hopefully something will be done with the eyesore that is the site of "The Melbourne" by the time I am back again next year.
