I think what was underestimated was how well the Tories played the SNP card. It seems the vote labour let the Scottish run the country played out pretty well to me. Lots of people voting conservative to keep the SNP out of central government. Nationalism on both sides is a powerful thing and has delivered us another Tory government so let's see if that delivers what the nationalists on all sides want.

Is Ed Balls about to lose his seat? They are having a recount and it appears that Labour have requested it - they aren't going to do that if they had won it. Probably the biggest result of the lot if true. 24 hours ago it seemed likely that Labour might form the next government and now the shadow chancellor might lose his seat. Will we ever trust a poll result again?

The polls are a total waste of time. None of them got anywhere near the right result. Tories are back in and after Labour totally cocked up last time with overspending and immigration I think they are the lesser of 2 evils, something I never thought I'd say. This isn't the Labour party of my youth by any stretch of the imagination. Hopefully Milliband will do the decent thing and resign.
I work in London and live in Surrey and I know the city will be breathing a sigh of relief but that isn't much consolation for the areas of the country that will become more and more marginalised
At least it keeps the SNP from medling too much in our affairs. Sooner we give them their freedom the better in my viewi

As long as the Scots take us with them. I really fear for this country with 5 more years of these vicious b@stards in charge

Looks like it's game on for the referendum on Europe.

I reckon that has cost them a lot of votes as well. Whether people individually think we should stay or go, there is an undeniable groundswell of momentum for people to actually be asked. Labour was categorically denying people that choice.

I agree. That's what swayed my vote (not that it counts for anything around here). As much as I believe we should stay in the EU, people need to be given the choice, in the name of democracy.

EDIT: I should say, that's not the only thing that decided my vote, just one of the things.
