I am sure that there were many "Barnsley supporters" at the Chelsea game for the first and for many only time, but that does not account for the full extra 6000. There are many more like me who only make it to selected games each season for the reasons I have already stated but obviously for a game like Saturdays we all pull all the stops out. So many of the "extra" 6000 were regular/part timers like myself all making sure they were at that game, not glory hunters. Lets not forget we all once went to our first match - the bug catches some and not others. I first went with a group of about 10 from school in 1966. After Jonny Evans and Barry Thomas were signed - a glory hunter! I am stiil going 42 years later! I am sure some of the glory hunters this year will continue to support the club for many years to come.
I think you are a little defensive as I certainly was not saying you are a glory hunter. I genuinely belive your view is invalid for the most part. This was proved by the fact we sold out every game in the Premiership year and had far bigger crowds the following 2 seasons than we have now
What do i have to be defensive about? Ofcourse the gates are going to be better the higher up the ladder you are. Do you believe that our average gate would still be 11000'ish if we dropped into league two. No way and half of our present so called (by Conkotyke) supporters would have disappeared for good but the long term parttimers (just fans according to Conko) like me would still be attending the same number of games.
I am starting to lose my patience a little as you are not reading what I say. If we dropped into league 2 our crowds would be about 7k because as i mentioned we have a core of about 6,500. When did I suggest that our crowds would stay at 11k if we were in league 2?
If you accept that they are going to go down with a drop in status then you have to accept the opposite with a climb up the ladder and I think you are being optomistic with gates of 7000 in league 2. Half that would be nearer!
TOMI of course you are a Barnsley supporter!! but a part time one. Theres no other way for you. I dont have a problem with part time supporters. I'm one myself.
Agreed... well, I am in the same boat. Used to be a season ticket holder when I lived in Yorkshire, now I can only get to a few games each season, naturally I make an extra effort to go to the big games as well as others when I have the time/cash.
twagged it off school today have we? If you want people to read what you've written try writing it so that people can understand it FFS!
RE: TOMI Hehe, no worries mate. And yes, I am indeed an extremely part-time Barnsley supporter... and although I'd love to change that, I find it quite difficult to arrange enough time or afford more than just one or two trips to the UK in one season.
RE: TOMI hope ur goin to make it for the Semi matey so long as u dont steal my ticket...these bloody part timers
