I remember it well. Fantastic day. I guess the fact that we were young ‘uns made it seem so memorable.

First and only time I ever heard my father swear...he spent the rest of his life apologising ever time the story was told.

Remember it well my dad got me out of school early. we went down to Leicester with Cudworth coach firm Chippy Rowe
Dad should have been on afters at Grimethope colliery but opted to miss a shift
Got to the turnstile and the junior turnstiles were about 5 doors away from the adults entrance ..my dad being protective and not wanting me to queue alone asked the guy if he could lift me over the style which happened regularly in those days the guy said there was no problem and said just put the lad through the turnstile so my dad did as he was told expecting to pay 1 adult and 1 junior price ...the guy then attempted to charge him for two adults and refused to let him through the turnstile. to which my dad said fxxk off ....your taking the pxxs I'm not paying for 2 adults ...next thing I know the police were there...luckily they sided with my dad when he explained the situation....and instructed the operator to let him in without charging him too .for his trouble..my dad was so embarrassed and upset he'd swore at the front of me let alone the police been called
He died in 2014 bless him and like I've said that was the first and last time I ever heard him use pit language as he called it

That Rotherham game (1-0, Derrick Parker) was notable because it was the first time we’d won at Millmoor for 42 years.

Chester in 80/81, we took over the ground.. my feet didn't touch the floor as we exited the ground.
Sheff Utd away in 89/90 was a right wrench!

Was that the 2-2 when we played in blue? Deane and Agana era Blunts? Epic tie and replay which I think we sadly lost.

Two replays, the first ended 0-0 and we lost the second one 1-0.

Fair assessment, first 20 minutes I thought we would get well and truly hammered but from then on we dominated and should at least have got a replay. As I said in an earlier post, me and my dad were in with the home fans and they all said Boro were lucky to win. Best team they'd seen that season bar Liverpool.

I was on that bus with my grandad and uncle Wilf. When Allan Clarke knocked in the winner from a clear offside position they both said if he ever signed for Barnsley they'd never watch them again. Fortunately they relented and were rewarded with some of their best times in 70 years of watching the Reds.

For the record (based on reports at the time) the League Cup Anfield fixture drew 18,000 Reds fans (foggy M62 meant some didn't get in until half time) and the FA Cup trip to M' Boro saw 12,000 Reds in attendance. My mate was a Boro fan and on the way to the ground he couldn't believe the number of South Yorkshire coaches parked up.
