Mourinho, O'Neill, Hiddink, Guardiola, or ideally Sir Alex. But as none of them are english, or would like the ultimate poisoned chalice, we are left with Harry, Hodgson or Pardew... jeeez
Re: I do hope we get someone the press likes And also forgets to mention that win over Spain late last year.
Re: I do hope we get someone the press likes Well he must be a bit dim then because I can't see how anyone would think Terry is the best choice for captain until this issue has been cleared up. ffs, Rio Ferdinand was all set, along with rest of the Man Utd team, the avoid the pre-match handshakes the other day until Terrry was forced out of the game through injury anyway. What kind of team morale would having Terry as captain going to foster in the summer?

Re: I do hope we get someone the press likes Even if Terry is cleared the PC brigade and the press would make it impossible to captain England again
Re: I do hope we get someone the press likes Disapointed for Fabio. Experienced manager with a big history of winning, yet he gets undermined by his inept bosses. Fabio was the manager so it should have been only his decision if he wanted Terry (who should be innocent until proven guilty) to carry on as captain. Good on him for taking the leap to back his old captain. I bet the FA didn't think he would have the balls to walk out with the Euros not far off. As ESL said he's not got a shabby win percentage with us, and to be fair neither did Sven. But the British press go after our managers just because they aren't English, yet same old players like Lampard, Gerrard etc who have flopped for a number of managers in a number of different tournaments still get picked without press bothering them.
Nope. He's already spoken to the Italian press, which suggests he has resigned without any kind of settlement.
Re: I do hope we get someone the press likes Redders is getting the Leeds job according to a workmate of mine. Been given the next 3 games to prove himself.
Not that fussed either way tbh. He did an ok job, but for £6m p.a. we surely expected a bit more than what he has managed to deliver. The next manager needs to be on a much smaller package. Hopefully we can get someone in who fancies bringing through a new generation, get rid of the same old, same old like Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard, Cole etc.
Doesn't necessarily mean anything, there could still be an embargo on what he can and can't say. We should know more for sure in the coming days if he lets rip about the chaos surrounding the job, and of course the complete bunch of cnuts he's had to deal with, both on the playing/club management side, and within the FA and national media. Hoddle for me by the way, ridiculously treated by the clueless FA last time around so unfinished business and plenty to prove. To take charge initially for the Euros, with a clear remit to take a young and hungry squad (ideally with no baggage) to the Euros with one eye squarely on the next World Cup.
If I had free choice I think I would go with Hoddle too. I just don't think it is realistic, even for 6 months.
How about Wenger? His time at Arsenal must be coming to an end, likes bringing youth through which is surely what England need.
I find it strange that quite a few posters think that the press have been having a pop at our last couple of managers because they are Foreign it makes no difference just look at how Hoddle Taylor McClaren wtc have all been treated. Even Bobby Robson got a lot of bad press.
Aye the press aren't fussed where the England manager is from, whoever it is will take the same amount of cr@p.
Is it too much to ask For someone with tactics not from the 1990's? As money is no object, it would be nice to think the next manager might have watched Germany or Spain play in the last couple of years and picked up some tips.
Re: Is it too much to ask The main thing here though is the foundations appear correct in Spain, but more so in Germany. Look at the pool of players they have coming through! Look at our Premier League, far too many foreign players in the top flight, yet the Germans have a vast number of homegrown players playing in every single Bundesliga match. I totally agree with the sentiments of ESL and DB3k previously. Capello has taken the sh*t end of the stick here. By taking us through a qualifying campaign with relative ease, I feel he has earned the right to manage us at the tournament he helped us qualify for. He readily acknowledged that he needed a younger, fresher fell to the squad, and i'm confident he would have kept his word. The World Cup shambles would have hurt him badly. He wouldn't want international failure on his resumé to end his career on. But even so, I feel he was fighting a losing battle as the quality of the players we have isn't nearly as good as the press would make you believe. If we were to start from the roots again today, we would still be 20 years behind the likes of Germany and Spain.
<like> Perfect reply. Who needs tactics from the 1990's? Keeping him and John Terry away from the national team is a perfect result.
