Harsh on Johnson as much as I don’t like the bloke. Like some have already mentioned, he did a better job than Wilson as well as the others on the list. I’ve gone for Morais on the basis that me, you, or Stevie Wonder could have kept that team up. Tough call though, the other 2 were absolutely rank weren’t they?!?!
Remember when slagging off Morais (who I thought was bad by the way) that he continued the season almost exactly as Heckingbottom had done for the previous 2 thirds of it, never had a transfer window to bring in a single player and while we had brought in some strikers just before he came we'd also just sold our captain and best centre back. Means that while he's **** he's nowhere near as bad as the other two
Morais for me. We were outside of the relegation zone when Hecky left & we only fell into it the week before he joined. There’s no way on earth that team should’ve gone down after getting Moore & McBurnie added to it. The bloke was an idiot. I always come back to Andy Yiadom been sat at home watching sky sports news on a Tuesday night whilst we were playing an away game & he wasn’t involved because Morais didn’t believe full backs could play twice a week. The same Yiadom that was our best full back by a country mile who’d regularly played Saturday - Tuesday & was rarely injured. Matt Mills talked about how useless he was on under the cosh & said we would’ve comfortably stayed up if it wasn’t for him. There was the Norwich game as well where we were leading 1-0 & McBurnie who was playing on the left was dead on his feet for most of the second half & fans were screaming at Morais for at least 15 mins to sub him off as they were constantly attacking us down that side & he did nothing & they ended up scoring from an attack down that side. He was just baffling. He’d do weird things like randomly bring a player in to the starting 11 who’d been out of the squad & not playing U21 games & then drop him again & you’d not see him for a month. The whole Schopp / Poya season was a shambles from start to finish. They left it too long to bring a manager in, he didn’t have his assistant & had to work with what we already had. Forgetting tactical decisions it was the least fit I’ve ever seen a Barnsley side. Even if we played well in the first half we would inevitably fall apart in the second half. I don’t think either were any good but I think the damage was done in pre-season.
Sadly that's irrelevant, as we're looking at managers in the last 10 seasons. And it was a disappointing second time under him, as we were even going backwards in this League, not in the Championship. I'll always be a fan of Danny though (and I even created the happy birthday thread on here on New years day lol).
