Roberts towered above most of the team, he's at least 6' 4. Collins was similar height to Helik and Andersen at the time - I'm sure he was reported as being 6' 5 when we signed him. I'm not convinced Killip is as tall as Adam Davies either.
yeah, its the first thing any player should do - check the opinions of a tiny % of fans posting anonymously on the internet.
I tend to agree actually - he’s the one that proves me wrong about the stats pages being consistent - plenty list him as six foot - but as you say transfermarkt have him as six four - that does seem to be more likely from his appearance when playing for us, from memory.
I think you’re right about Roberts, think the stats on him are wrong in a lot of places - but I’ll bare my arse on the town hall steps if Brad Collins is six five or anything like as tall as Mads. He isn’t a tall keeper at all.
In terms of those I knew and stood next to, I think Radlinger was tallest, Roberts not quite as tall, but an inch or two taller than Davies, Isted and Collins, on a par with Searle maybe. I would put Killip similar in height to Walton and Jordan Smith. Townsend smallest. I only met Jackson Smith briefly but he was at least 6ft. Sorry, I’ve just used this to see if I could remember all the keepers in the last eight years, probably missed one regardless.
The club have always said they will look to improve every part of the squad where possible within budget constraints and who’s available. If a better keeper is available (which he is, and the club made him available), then they are right to attempt it. Same applies to any position. If the opportunity arises, you take it - even if the timing might be a touch early.
If you wanted this defence sorting, you’d bring back Heinz Muller - he took no **** off anyone and made himself heard every time someone messed up. Top keeper.
Except we are losing 8 million quid each and every year so the budget constraints don't allow us to improve all 11 positions on the pitch. With that in mind we should probably concentrate on the appalling players we've got, not the average ones.
That high, when he jumps wow ... Personally i think you are being over generous in your estimation on how high he jumps lol
This is a strange one because I’ll put goalkeeper a long way down the list of priorities (albeit it’s not a bad thing to try and improve if you can afford to)! I’m trying to work out what it means. It’s either; a) we’re wasting the scarce resources we have on a position we don’t urgently need to sort; or b) we’ve got sufficient money to sign players as and when they’re available, regardless of position. If the latter then I expect big things to come over the next few days (). If not then it shows our recruitment lacks much in the way of strategy. Time will tell I suppose.
I thought the 8 million losses were when we first came down? Surely we aren't still losing 8 million a year now all of the championship earners have been sold on (except Benson) and most sold on for profit. The wage bill was the big issue from my limited understanding when we came down, but that should now be far lower and more in line with where we are at. Lincoln announced losses of 2.7 million in their last accounts. Surely our wages and running costs etc. Can't be nearly 4 times theirs still now we've sold on all those from the championship bar Benson who I've mentioned. EDIT: Just looked online and 2023 showed 4 million losses down from 7 million before so we are not losing 8 million a year "Accounts for Barnsley Football Club Ltd, recently filed with Companies House, show a pre-tax loss of £4m in the year ending 31 May 2023, compared to £7m in 2021/22."
Jon Flatman said we are losing 8m quid a season in a fan forum that’s still on YouTube 3 months ago: about 17.30 in.
Well either he or companys house isn't telling the truth then as that quote I got came from accounts submitted to company's house. Same was reported here by Doug from the same submitted accounts https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/27512/barnsley-fc-lost-4million-in-2223
