He suits Rochdale. I think what got our fans' backs up (myself included) when he was here was the fact he bigged himself up so much. Then when things went against him he blamed everyone but himself. Never had a good word for the supporters and was all about making Barnsley a Rochdale mk2. I mean, no offence to Rochdale, they're a great club. But we are a little higher up the food chain. Not perennial League One strugglers. In the the end he laid the foundations of us being a midtable L1 side.
Thought he gave a very good interview. Sounds like he conducted himself impeccably today. Takes a big man to not hold any grudges. On a day when Steve Evans and Neil ratface Harris grabbed the headlines hats off to Keef.
Yeah that’s how I remember him tbh . He more or less told us we shouldn’t expect anything and be grateful for what we’ve got . The walking across a tight rope with both feet tied or summat similar was the last straw or me . I expect nothing from my team but I hope for everything and he more or less tried to stop that . Other than that I think he’s a good fit for Rochdale and has done well for them and long may it continue but don’t tell anyone what to think it’s arrogant imo
After Robins we believed we could achieve something. We were a decent Championship team with high hopes, not playing great football, but grinding out good results. Hill seemed like he could get us playing as well as getting good results. Turned out he couldn't hack the higher Leagues and blamed the fans which left a bad aftertaste at the club. Hope Rochdale do well.
I always liked him. He lost the plot a bit after that great team of his was torn apart though. Good manager who's last year with us probably wrecked his chances of another championship job.
To be fair Robins left because the budget was getting reduced and he didn't think we could be competitive in that league. Hill came in and got us playing some of the best football I've seen at Oakwell with that reduced budget. We ignored his advice on offering our better players improved contracts (such as Butterfield) and the team was ripped apart through no fault of him own. A lot of what he said was wrong with us structurally and behind the scenes was spot on. If you listen to Heckingbottom and his recent criticisms of the way we were organised they are pretty much the same as what Hill was saying back in 2011. That said, I agree he didn't always go about it in the right way and that put a lot of people's backs up.
Thats the reason we went for him. He worked wonders at Rochdale without a penny. Logically it was a great move for him and us, but like I said he couldn't hack it higher up. So blamed everyone else because he couldn't bear that he'd been proved wrong when he said he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Sad how it turned out, I'm sure he's a decent fella to have a drink with. But he fecked up big time at Oakwell.

I like him. Honest fella. Also on sly in pub in rhyl i watched brum 0 reds 5. What a performance we were awesome. Sat with to brum fans and one said they had never seen a team dismantle them like that at st andrews in 30 odd yrs of watching brum. Wat a game
Thought they were unlucky not to get a point at least. Matched us for 90 minutes, best opposition team performance I've seen at home this season. Keith's downbeat honesty not to everyone's liking, but he's done a great job for Dale. I hope they stay up, and on that showing they should.
They must have missed the play off semi final where we battered them then! He’s a decent fella, always felt he was never given enough credit for good results but got hammered when we lost, probably the same for most managers actually though
A dreadful manager. His interviews have improved immeasurably. When he was with us, as well as being total nonsense they were barely comprehensible. He made Stendel sound like Stephen Fry.
Did he really though? I posted about this yesterday, if you look at that side that was bottom under him, there weren’t many good players, most ended up in league one & two after leaving us. We’d cut the budget, were one of the relegation favourites & after losing so many key players at once we were only really where we should’ve been. Flitcroft somehow produced a miraculous 4 months but then the players soon ended up back at their natural level. Wiseman, McNulty, Kennedy, Done, O’Brien, Dawson, Dagnall were all regular starters for us over that 2 year period which to me is the core of a mid-table League One side not a team that should be staying up in the championship.
I think the answer to that is in much of this thread. Hill was taking the Club to hell in a handcart. His treatment of players and staff at the Club was appalling. His inability to take responsibility for his own failings was legendary.
Flitcroft hit on one good formation. One which was actually Hills idea and was due to be implemented anyway but hill had been sacked just before he got chance to do it (was waiting for international break or something if my memory is correct). As soon as flitcroft had to change the formation due to an injury he was found out and was a piss poor manager
