That’s the problem these days. Teams are just looking for an advantage from absolutely every single incident. Refs are on a hiding to nothing for fear of getting it wrong.

The ref should just make them leave the pitch for 2 minutes as the physio should be mandatory protocol. If the lad isn't injured and refuses to have treatment or leave the pitch, book him and then still make them leave the pitch for two minutes, the FA should make this protocol too, it would stop the blatant cheating that's rife through the game.

That’s a good point. If they go down holding their head and the game is stopped for them they have to do the full concussion protocols before they can reenter the pitch.

How likely is that to happen though? Again would a minute or two really make that much difference?

Potentially it could make all the difference.

It would also stop the "trailing pinky finger to shoulder, grab my face with both hands and collapse" stoppages too.

The punishment needs to be punitive for it to make any difference. Adding 30s for 30s wasted largely makes no difference. Breaking down the play and stopping momentum is the purpose. Now, if you add 2 minutes for every 30 seconds of time wasting. Dish a few red cards to keepers. Teams will pack it in, sharpish. The problem with all this though, will be consistency. We know we wouldn’t be able to trust them to apply it consistently.

What was their keeper one about last night?
No one near him, just sits down and waves for physio, ref stops match, physio on, looks like he needed new ties for his socks and all continues. Farce.

This tactic is the latest scourge of the game. We now see head injuries at least half a dozen times every game.

Used for both time wasting and breaking up the opposition play. Where a defender makes a poor clearance or a block and it looks like it may drop to an attacker, we see this so their team can at least reset their positions ready for the dropped ball.

As said above, if the player is not subbed they should be made to leave the field for 2 minutes observations.

Make it 3 minutes, every time the game has been stopped for a head 'injury'. It would 100% stop it imo. Especially on separate occasions from different players

You’d have teams doing it to make the game last longer if they were losing if you make it too long!

The FA aren’t going to do anything about it. If they aren’t going to do anything about Arsenal’s pathetic time wasting with fake head injuries at Anfield the other week with millions watching they aren’t going to care about it happening to little old Barnsley

Oooh...just seen Bayern do it to city.
Why not borrow from rugby union and just let the physios run straight on to see to it. Obviously play could carry on....that should cut the acting out.

In Rugby League any head injury the player is off and assessed by the doctor,if OK can go back on.

Just this carry on whist the injury is assessed. Ref just waving the physio on like he does to tell a player to re-enter

It’s bad enough the time wasting but worse is the tactic used to stop play when the opposition is in a good attacking position. At least the play should continue until a break in play or the side with the injury gain possession

Send them directly to Barnsley General, and if they get back in time, they can come back on.

The only way to resolve is have 2 x 40 minute halves with the clock been stopped. Fairly easy way to resolve the issue.

I can think of a couple of ways to deal with this, though neither are perfect.

Don't rugby matches allow play to go on while the physio is on pitch looking at the player? I know this could be awkward depending on where the player is but if they aren't in the box it might not make too much impact and would discourage faking it.

Alternatively, anyone with a head injury (genuine or faked) has to leave the pitch for a minimum of 2 minutes, maximum of 5 minutes. This would allow physios to check the player in more depth and discourage faking.
