I have to say that the four (?) penalties at the Millenium Stadium in the play-off game vs Swansea were absolutely brilliant. None of them gave the Swansea goalie a prayer. I think the two Pauls (Hayes and Heckingbottom) scored and Chris Shuker, who got the other ? (Sorry, so old few memory cells are left now ).
Thanks, JLWBL, yes Anthony Kay - thank you for sparking a part of my brain that I've not accessed in years
Against Workington if memory serves me right.. .I was there stood in the old brewery stand think it went out for a throw in lol
We’ve had a few howlers give against us against Leeds in recent years. And a shocker against Sheff U at home, on the telly, thanks Clattenburg! Worst Iv seen from us is Craig Davies’s pen against Birmingham at home I think it was.
Most costly would be the (otherwise excellent) Darren Barnard missing in the Premier League play off final. Gutting. The worst? What about Graham’s Pugh - around 76/77 I think. In front of the Ponty. Hit it so weakly down the centre of the goal, that even though the keeper had already dived out of the way, he had time to, put on the kettle, deal with his correspondence, book a week’s holiday in Filey, and still get up to trap the ball with his instep. Totally useless.
Another vote for the ZDS cup shootout. Not because it was important or memorable but because Sky had the temerity of having Washday manager Ron Atkinson as first half co-commentator. Also features Dino Connelly’s only contribution as a Barnsley player.
Redfearn’s penalty against Liverpool would’ve been the most famous in my lifetime if they hadn’t greased an injury time winner.
He scored, missed a penalty that would have made it 2-0, and then sent off. All in the space of 5 first half minutes. We ended up winning 3-2, first away team to win a league game at the Stadium of Light I think?
Still one of my all time favourite away games that one. We got pegged back from 2-0 up to 2-2 in the last 10 minutes. Then Sean McClare (I think) got tripped in injury time for a pen at our end of the ground. Darren Barnard sent the keeper the wrong way as cool as you like for the winner. Wish he'd done the same at Wembley......
I can remember loads of stuff from years back related to BFC. My short term memory on the other hand......
Craig Hignett missing vs Huddersfield in the 7-1 game which was the only time Hignett and Ward played in the same game together for us.
