Your Getting It Wrong..... i am on about LOCAL fans who don't have commitments. I am sure a LARGE % of them are missing. The fans from across the world are a credit to the club.
Knob-head I'm a season-ticket holder but is it a crime not to watch a football match? We are in the entertainment business the same as rock concerts, theatre, cinema and many other sports as well as football. Do you go to the pictures every week or just go when there's a good movie on? Do you go to Sheffield Arena, City Hall every week or just if there's a band you want to watch on? If the answer is no then by your argument you're a traitor the entertainment business. It's £22 to watch Barnsley - much more than a lot of people can afford. They went to Cardiff cos it was a one off - we'll never play at the Millenium ever again - it's called a big game sunshine. All this moaning about the size of the crowd and stayaway fans really gets on my tits & I go every week. We're a town the size of Donny, Rotherham, Chesterfield, Scnuthorpe and Colchester - anything in 5 figures is tremendous. Don't forget just before we went up to the Prem we were averaging around 6,000 and it was only about £8 a match in those days. Some people are only happy when they're moaning and it seems you're one of them.
Get a grip man. For a start, there are Barnsley fans who don't live in Barnsley. Then there are the friends, relatives, next-door neighbours, work mates, boyfriends and girlfriends of Barnsley-fans who hitched a lift to Cardiff because there was a space in the car or in the mini-bus or on the coach not because they were Barnsley football fans but because they are from Barnsley and someone close to them cares passionately about B.F.C. was pestering them to go. I work in Aberdeen Mon-Fri and live in Glasgow and would give my right arm to have a season ticket and go to every home and away game every season but guess what, life gets in the way. Be that your loved ones, your job or any other commitments. I went to about 9 matches, home and away last season, including the Play Off Final. Hurray for me, I'm a part-timer! At around £150 for a return flight to Manchester or a 4 hour drive to Oakwell it's not something you can do week-in, week-out. Get a grip.
RE: I too plead guilty to non-attendence. you "would" say you were in work but clearly you aren't? Are you one of those this thread is aimed at ?
The reason why those people don't turn up is because most of them don't support Barnsley and never have done. I know plenty of people at school who said they went and I have never heard them say one good word about us. And they claim they're Man Utd "supporters". Either that or they don't like football. There were plenty of people from my form at school who went, yet all through the season all they'd done is insult us - saying we were rubbish, even when we were doing well. Then, the minute we got in the play offs they all reckoned they supported us. Of course though, this season we're "rubbish" and "going down" again, despite not being anywhere near the relegation zone. Next time we get in the play offs they'll show up though, obviously - since they're such great fans and everything. Probably better if they stop at home since they can't ever think of anything nice to say. There were a few people that went who still turn up every week though. Not all school kids are that bad.
I'd like to nominate myself. I'm a **** fan, me. Unlike you and the rest of the proper fans. You're all great. I wish I was like you lot. Well, a bit like you lot. I'd like a f**king clue what I'm on about, but that would make me stand out too much.
not good enough mate!!!! clearly to some folk anyway. its a well known fact that the better you are doing, the more crowds you get. go back a few years (before we got to the prem), we regularly had averga attendances that was always around 4-6 thousand, gradually over the years, we have increased (with exception of when we got relegated to that shithole we were n last year). So, in a nutshell, yes we could do with more, but we can't frogmarch everyone to the ground!
Me. I didn't go because I can't afford it. If someone wants to buy me a ticket then I will happily turn up.
