I’m the same. Won’t bring my lad to away games - he’s fifteen now though and starting to want to go. We will take a couple in next season I’d imagine.
It’s a minority of dickheads. Every club has them. Not a defence of course but I do feel this board tars away regulars with the same brush at times.
I've been to plenty of away games going back a long time. There's always been a sizeable minority of Neanderthals following us and every other club. It's a sad reality. There's a fair percentage of them that need running out of the club until they learn how to be reasonable human beings. There is the argument that we can't afford to losefans that way but you only have to look at the number of comments on here from people who say they don't go to away games any more because of our selection of idiots to realise we may even gain more than we lose.
Don’t get me wrong some of it does make me cringe a bit. Me and my mate take our sons to plenty and we more often than not have a top day. Not sure what the answer is but you are right there are plenty on here that don’t go and that is a shame. To be fair I didn’t see much in terms of what you’d call poor behaviour yesterday, I’d say 90% of us were just fine and I have seen some posts from FGR fans praising us and hoping we go up etc. so it’s not all doom and gloom.
This kind of thing happens at matches every week somewhere, it’s just crowd/player banter that has always existed.....can’t see problem myself
When a clubs getting relegated and you go a few feet away from the fans cup your ears and wave them bye. I thought fgr fans took it well. If it happened infront of the ponty it would get a more hostile reaction. No wonder he got booed off.
It’s been said on here that they sang a song about him being a waaanker !......so tit for tat in my eyes mate
Ye some ov the young lads chants wernt good but no racist or really abusive stuff where we were. The Micheal van Gerwin chant at the bald linesman was funny at first. Dint like the sending you down stuff, someone on here called for us to show respect and I agree. All in all a good day. 3 old lads in Spoons fascinated wi our accents shaking hands and wishing us well...Stroud is a nice place and good to see local police having photos wi our lot in Queen Vic..
Suppose so I said that when winnall celebrated give it out you have to take it when it comes back to you.
He did get some stick from them in warm up. You also never know what gets said from the stands during a match. We’re too far away from where we were, to hear comments. I’m torn on it. I was raging when Winnall celebrated against us. So I probably shouldn’t condone what Norwood did.
A minority just being dickheads that’s all it was. The behaviour doesn’t mean they should be ‘run out of the Club’. It’s just embarrassing more than anything else. Makes you role yourself eyes when you see and hear it.
Due to my location, I do many more aways than homes, not noticed any real difference between the two. We have a sizeable number of numpties home and away, but so do most teams, not sure how you'd create a numpty league table, but that's football. It's not cricket.
We went to Burton and in the Whetherspoons there were a group of guys in the beer garden singing. No problem with that. Yeah, they were a bit loud but causing no bother until for some reason one of them decided it would be a laugh to chuck a few empty glasses on the ground and start a "We're Barnsley FC, we do what we want" chant. Why? What did that achieve except make our club and our town look like a bunch of thugs? Luckily, one or two of his mates realised what he done was out of order and hadn't gone down well with most other fans in the place and they made him leave. Still left a bad taste in my mouth that staff had to clear all the mess up.
Sorry to see FG go down. We’ve had some good players from them in the past. We didn’t relegate them all the other games they lost did. Great result for us.
To apply some balance to this, my 11 year old has travelled all round the country with us this season (as i did at a similar age in the late 80s and early 90s - when there REALLY was some poor behaviour) and i would really encourage some of the posters excluding their kids from attending away to think again. My son knows the difference between right and wrong and what is and isnt appropriate - and he also, in my opinion, benefits from seeing the dangers of how folk behave when they can't handle drink and drugs. By the way for what its worth i didn't see too much of what folk are describing yesterday. We had a nice day.
The thing is, in the eyes of the wider game, our Club is small. We have average attendances around 10k and a handful of fans that would come unstuck very quickly, if they came up against serious bother. To see us go to places like Burton and FGR and start giving it Billy Big B0llocks, is embarrassing.
