It actually hurts that somebody genuinely believes that. Dear me. Even if we weren't only five points from the playoffs with 18 games to go, even after having had the worst run we've ever had earlier in the campaign, it wouldn't even have been close to being the biggest game. I've no desire for us to lose - that would be folly - but I'd gladly swap a trip to Wembley (one which I will not be joining you all on), for us still to have even an outside chance of a top six finish at around Easter. After port vale Easter Monday we go into six games in April, four of which at home. I've no reason to hope that we don't win the jpt having got this far, but I can't pretend that I think it has any importance nor any value other than maintaining confidence and momentum. Let's be real. It's the old associate members cup, for teams who didn't get full football league voting rights, which used to be the case for the old divs 3 and 4. As opposed to the old full members cup for the top two divisions, zenith data systems cup or whatever it was. It will make a lovely day out for a team with no other ambitions but for me, we have to be looking to be back in the top two divisions, and being 'full members' once again. And not to be too over confident either - we aren't safe in this league yet either.
In ten year's time, will your memory of this season by a mediocre tenth place finish, or the day at Wembley?
If we are still flying around mid March we should do a belter of a deal for those four games and fill the ground. Make it around season pass prices so something like 60 quid for all four games for adults.
Surely the sensible thing is to park him on the bench. Hopefully we won't need him, but if we need a goal with 15 to go... throw him on.
