Would be a good way to do transfer negotiations- Gauthier turning up at Turf Moor singing "any advance on £3.5m?"
So use this new chap as an example (if your worst nightmare were to come true). You'd rather Sheffield U (example) sign Pinnock for half a mill from FGR now, than Swansea (example) buy him from us for 6 mill in Jan? Think about that. Cos if we sell him for big bucks in Jan it is yet again more proof that we are doing things right. There will come a time when we don't have to sell, but for the next couple of years let's trust the plan. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
I don't think the plan extends beyond polishing players up and selling them on. Is that compatible with on the field success?
I know that you are disappointed that the signings that we are making are not household names, and by the looks of things tonight, you are not on your own. I known that we have seen virtually the whole of the team that graced Wembley twice sold off, and I cannot say that that has not happened, because it has. I know that you are hurting and that you are probably not in the mood to listen. In spite of that, I am going to try to convince you that things are headed in the right direction. According to the accounts for season 2015/16, in spite of visiting Wembley twice, we lost £1m. That figure was reduced to £500k because of a donation from Mr Cryne. The same accounts showed that we had lost £9.5m since Mr Cryne took the club out of Administration, and that figure is before donations made by Mr Cryne in order to allow us to comply with Financial Fair Play Rules. These loses reflect a club that struggles to compete financially in spite of its ability to compete on the field as witnessed by its finishing position in the Championship last season. higher than either of the clubs promoted with us the previous season. If the club is to sustain itself in the long term, it is clear that something had to be done. It simply has to have an on-going financial plan as well as an aspiration to play at the highest level that it can. The club has developed such a plan. It is operating in a stormy environment, and much of what happens is not in its power to plan. The players hold most of the cards in the modern game. The club simply has to take the right money when it is available. The days when players had to do our bidding are long gone. In the modern environment, the club has to take the money and move on. You might not like that, but that does not make that statement untrue. You are not as old as me, and I have adapted. If you love the club as I do, you simply have to move on... find new heroes. Addressing your point about the ex CEO, there are legal reason why a club cannot discuss the reasons it has sacked someone. The club must not generally make know why someone was dismissed in case it limits that person's ability to find another job, though it may do so if specifically asked by a prospective employer for a reference.
Polishing players, selling them on, great! It's been working. But then what? Why aren't we reinvesting? Why aren't we trying to build a side to try and finish as high as possible? I'll be the first to admit that I am quite envious of Huddersfield, because that's ultimately what I want for my club, and personally I think that's what every Barnsley supporter should want, to watch out team play against the highest quality possible, otherwise what is the point? Thought we supported a football club not a financial institution. Brighton are a 171 million quid in debt. Who is in a better position us or them? Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
We are losing Championship quality players and replacing with young unproven players at this level. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'll start with the CEO issue because it's easier. I understand that if they have sacked him they cannot go into detail why but who said they have sacked him? Was he sacked, did he quit? Nobody knows and we should know because it is important to supporters. Even a short statement saying that the club has terminated his employment or he has handed in his notice would suffice but instead we got nothing but silence which is an appalling disregard for your customers. Moving on to the accounts all I can say is that we must be absolutely terribly mismanaged if we can have a top six income, one of the highest gates in the division, get to Wembley twice, win a cup, get promoted, sell players and still lose an absolute fortune. Just where is that money going? And why if we are so desperate for cash are we not trying to maximise revenue in other areas? Advertising boards laying empty, scoreboard with ZERO (unique) advertising on it, thousands upon thousands of empty seats, a retail outlet with empty shelves etc. The excuse that we have to sell our squad to stop us going under while other clubs are able to survive without doing so can surely ONLY mean that we are financially managed far worse than our rivals
I really like this post. But this should have been said in January when me and one or two others were saying what you are saying here - but as usual I was getting lambasted- because we were just one point off the playoffs - so the guys on here can't see further than their nose and thought everything would just continue in the same vain. It didn't And then we (yes 'we') had 2 months talking about players contracts
Once we gave players away for nowt. One day well keep them for years. We are currently in between the 2 states ( a transition). I.E getting money for them, but not quite keeping them long term. But we're getting there. The contract situation has changed in a matter of weeks. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
Jack tatty,we came up with Winnall from league one but with the apparent strength of this season's league can we take a risk of not having two quality striker additions ?
^^^^^^ THIS WITH F@CKING BELLS ON ^^^^^ PS Can't be arsed to read the rest of the replies. This sums up how I feel......... F@cking worried.
whilst we all want to keep our better players to improve year on year i'm sure the club offered robbo a new contract like davies & angus? he didn't sign? sell now for 3.5 million more than we paid or wait til january to receive a winnall fee or worse nothing next june? sounds to me we made the right choice and hopefully unearthed another gem tied to a longer contract? southampton have lost the same number of first team players over the same period and are still competative get behind the club and new stars of the future COYR PS the transfer window is still open
