FAO anyone starting posts with "FAO"

Ht does himself no favours and brings a lot on himself but theres quite a few who are just as bad, whitey/merlin/whateverelsehecallshimself , jacktatty , supertyke and a couple others take great pleasure in tryin to make him look foolish when he often does a pretty good job himself, maker you wonder, who craves the attention most ?

I'd say that they have two purposes at times, one is if you want one specific person to reply to the thread but you're also happy for others to join in such as a FAO HT thread I made the other day asking him about academy keepers, I wanted his opinion specifically but anyone elses input was welcomed. A pm wouldn't have allowed that.

The other is when you're talking to one person and while it isn't intended for anyone else to reply you also aren't particularly bothered if they read it. Considering that there is a limit to the number of pm's you can have and the ease of posting a thread rather than using the pm system makes FAO threads much simpler in my opinion.

Exactly. Do posters who put "FAO....you have PM" not understand that the recipient gets a notification/message goes into their PM inbox etc. Its not rocket science is it?

 

I think a lot do it because on the old version of the BBS it wasn't as obvious that you had a PM (no pop ups) and a lot of people missed them so the 'you have pm' thing became popular.

 

hopefully we have helped raise awareness of the 'new' PM notification function.

 

You can turn notifications off, so not every one will get it.

I was trying to decide whether that post was meant to be ironic in some way, or some private joke. I take it from that reaction that it wasn't and that he just wanted to find out what would happen if he prodded Hicksy with a stick.

 

The is going to severely restrict debate on the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. How are we going to discuss the maize disease creating a poverty trap for farmers in Eastern Africa without referring implicitly to the FAO?

I urge you to reconsider this hasty decision, release us from our bondage and bring the FAO back to the debating table.
