I could see the logic in going for three points; gets us back to within a converted try of them. I think the yellow card might have just cost us the game. Reckless.
Reckless, but he only stood his ground and put the shoulder there. If he didn't do that and the pass went to the other Aussie then he'd have broken the tackle and scored. I could see the logic in the three points. But the Aussies were reeling and I think we should have kicked for the corner and gone for seven points. Then they would have wilted even more. Game over.
A penalty would probably have been fair, the yellow card did seem a little harsh. It's definitely game over now. It was the Wales game that sealed our fate, not this one.
Especially getting beaten by South Africa? Funny how some Scots only get cheered up by English defeats. Anyone might think they had a complex.....
The only interest our Scottish cousins have in world cups have is when England will lose because they know they have no chance of winning. However bad we are we can still remember 1966 and 2003 Scotland can remember their success when we did not win.
It was the Wales game that was the killer, but we were clearly not good enough even if we had hung on against wales and scraped though the group we weren't going make much progress against the Southern Hemisphere teams
I'll now be supporting the remaining home nations until they exit. While they, particularly the Scots, celebrate our demise. Hmmm!?!
The Scottish are our brothers and sisters - indeed our bedfellows (in a platonic way of course, although I do remember a wee lass called Wilma...). We should not deny the Scots their success, no matter how long they have to wait for it to eventually arrive. If it does. Which it won't.
I agree, I can't see past New Zealand or the Aussies winning it. We were in a tough group and our shortcomings have been exploited.
The Welsh are as bad as the Scots these days when it comes to rugby and wanting England to lose. Never classy in victory or defeat the taffs.
Again Scotielands world cup relies more on when England lose than they win, Assume 1966 and 2003 are years when the world was a dark place north of the border. Still you could always go it alone but 55.3% thought it was better to stay with your English cousins.
It's much easier to be disciplined when you're in front, and the Aussies did it well. What was disappointing was the defensive sloppiness in the first half, and silly penalties in the second..we had a real opportunity to come back when Joseph inexplicably kicked in to touch...and effectively the comeback finished there. Robshaws biggest regret though must be not taking the 3 points against Wales...utterly ridiculous decision. It looks quite open, Springboks lose to Japan..All Blacks far from convincing...Aussies did well today but not a great side...perhaps it's France's year.
Wasn't it Watson that kicked in to touch? I only ask as I thought Joseph had a really good first half and moving him out to the left wing just meant we lost his burst of speed and power through middle. I think the decision to take three points in this game at 20-10 was a bad one as well, in hindsight. The Aussies were reeling at that point and we should have put the pressure on.
You could be right, I thought it was out of character for Joseph, but I was watching it at work so didn't manage to concentrate on the details.
