I'd like to take this opportunity to explain my feelings regarding Patrick cryne again to try to explain some of my posts. Firstly I don't blame him one bit for focussing on other things at the moment. Anyone who does is as selfish as you can get. I also dont want him to sell up completely or leave the club. I never have really wanted that. What I have always wanted is for him to sell SOME of his shares to a second or third partner so that there is more than one person making all the decisions. Somebody to challenge him and tell him when he is making the wrong decision because I honestly believe that such a small board all working FOR him will never dare to challenge him too hard as he is their employer. If there was a second part owner who could turn to him and say 'patrick we can't keep selling everyone. I know you think we need to save up cash but if we do this we will ruin the club' then perhaps he would see the folly in this approach? Also while I understand his illness and again I don't want to be disrespectful we have to remember that he has been owner for well versed a decade and during that time a lot of people have raised concerns about what happens if... And those concerns weren't really addressed. If they had been addressed then this whole thread would have been avoided. Again a second or third owner would partially have alleviated those concerns and I believe would have removed the 'need' from a fire sale. Something else that I feel needs mentioning is that people keep arguing about him selling entirely in the past. Saying things like 'nobody has ever come for us' or on the other side 'i don't believe that nobody came to buy us'. Isn't the actual truth simply that despite saying to small groups of fans that he would welcome a sale there has never been any serious attempt to advertise the club as for sale? Perhaps that is why nobody has ever come in. The analogy I used a long time ago for this is that I would welcome a serious offer on my home but because I have never advertised my home for sale there is practically zero chance of that offer ever coming in. The last point that needs mentioning is that without wanting to be distasteful surely there HAS to have been discussions taken place recently regarding future ownership of the club. Maybe it would help all concerned if a statement was put out outlining what Patrick's plans for the future of the club are because I don't believe from one minute that there are no plans in place. I'd like to finish off by reiterating that despite my many moans I do not hate or dislike Patrick cryne in any way. I am hugely grateful for what he has done. I firmly believe that almost every decision he has ever taken has been with the interests of the club in mind even if they have been (in my opinion) the went decisions. I say almost every decisions simply because I would assume selfish reasons would have influenced a few decisions as he is after all human so I didn't want to say ALL decisions and sound like the praise was fake. I believe that he has the best interests of the club at heart and that his biggest failing has just been surrounding himself with yes men (intentionally or unintentionally) who have failed to challenge him on certain decisions. That is nothing against him as a person and isn't intended as an insult. The behaviour of fans towards his son was completely out of order as was the damage to his car that he received (I think). Patrick cryne the person should not suffer for mistakes made by Patrick cryne as a businessman. I wish him nothing but the best
I'd rather the club stayed in the control of someone who has the best long term interests of the club at heart.
I've actually made quite a few similar posts in the past both before and after his illness was announced I've just never been very good at wording things properly so they never sound the way they're intended. One thing that I forgot to include was that as a long time prolific moaner and quite a negative fan I would welcome James into the club with open arms and those who would deliberately abuse him personally are in the tiny tiny minority. So if the opportunity is still on the cards for him he would be wise to consider it but should also feel under no pressure to do so as he's already part of the Barnsley FC family simply by being a supporter and will remain as such whether he is a board member, owner, programme seller or simply a fan.
Why don't you arrange to meet him and express your views to him personally, or failing that, write a letter to him at the club, expressing your concerns about how he's doing things, and maybe put forward your ideas to improve things?
Pretty sure he's referred to it in the past on Facebook. Other BFC staff read it too, but I'll keep my opinions about those to myself * *not Whitey
