RE: Eye for an eye Ok, I get you. Check whether we think they can be "cured" before deciding whether they should recieve the death penalty or not. It's an idea but you're stuck with the same problems you have when deciding whether to relesase offenders or not. A significant proportion slip through the net. It's not so much the paedophile aspect I believe we should look at as the tendancy to abduct, rape etc. A paedophile can no more control his desires than anyone else and the vast majority of us all wouldn't dream of commiting violent rape. What sets the attackers apart from the rest of society is that they use force to satisfy their desires without any concern for their victims. Just for the record I'd advocate the death penalty for ALL premediatated violent rape not just cases like these where the cruelty aspect is almost off the scale.
A handy paedo Good sentence. Spending time in a room with himself will be hell. Though I see your point. Having kids gives a different perspective on things, and the thought that someone could do that to your own is enough to make anyone feel violent. Myself included. Though everyone reckons they'd be able to take a paedophile in a fight. What if they are handy? Admittedly unlikely, but still. Being beaten up by a paedo would be pretty embarrassing.
OK Windy my turn to raise to the bait Say you are right and we kill this chap. You know nothing about him - except what he had done. What if it turns out, he has wrongly been given a drug by his GP which effects the mind and he was not responsible for his actions? The same accident could happen to you - and it could be your life on the line. I of course use an extreme example, in a spectrum of effects on peoples lives which cause them to do things, that otherwise they would not have done. Where do you draw the line?
I asked a simple question and had a pretty good solution for the problem (in my opinion), and then that's all you can say? Personally, I don't really care what happens to these three men, as long as they stay away from the 'normal' society for a very very long time, hopefully for the rest of their lives. But when you say things like "Everyone seems to be getting hung up on murder like it's the worst thing a person can do" or "You think mass murder is the worst thing anyone can do?" it makes me feel that you think that it would have been better if this girl had died. Yeah yeah, she'll be "mentally scarred and will have to go to therapy for the rest of her life and her life will never be the same again", but for f*ck's sake, at least she's still alive, which you seem to have forgotten here!
RE: OK Windy my turn to raise to the bait A very extreme example indeed, but that's a good point, and another reason why capital punishment shouldn't be brought back.
RE: Why did I head the comment with a phrase like "psuedo liberals"? "I did't believe anyone would have the neck this time" Eh? So you think people turn principles on and off do you. Taking a life is wrong - full stop, the death penalty is abhorrent and has no place in a civilised society. That is not to say that I don't struggle with it when cases like this occur but every time I still believe it is wrong to have the death penalty - the moment you don't believe that then you will keep drawing the line at where you use it. And I didn't actually say "who would do it" for the very reason that I knew if I did that someone would say, I'd do it, "I'd willingly kick him to death" and for that very reason you put the decision in the hands of the court rather than in the hands of a mob or someone purely out for revenge - because that is all the death penalty is - revenge. You'd kick him to death? Then fine - and you would quite rightly be incarcerated.
Once again you've missed it by a country mile Tomi. If you actually had thought about it you might have considered that they were keeping the toddler alive because they hadn't finished with her. Your theory that my assertion that some people think murder is the worst thing you can do somehow means I wish they'd killed the girl is entirely wrong. You're the only one making that connection. Once again you entered a conversation without any of the facts armed only with your supersilious know-all attitude. Remember the Rob Knowles debate? Wind your neck in young 'un. You're not as smart as you think you are.
But because we don't have a life sentence as meaning life is not a reason to have the death penalty, it's a reason to alter the sentencing so that you can give a full life sentence.
RE: Capital punishment. What do you think of capital punishment for animals then? For example a <s>dalmatian</s> dog that kills someone, should it be <s>hanged</s> put to sleep, or is it 'innocent' because it's just an animal? DISCUSS<font size="-3">TING</font>

Eh? "Those children who'll go to sleep tonight unaware of the fact that they're going to have her lives torn apart by some sick ******* the liberals wanted releasing" You are the first to criticise people for not sticking directly to the topic, or following what has been said - so could you enlighten me upon who it is, in saying that they opposed the death penalty, wants these people releasing?
I'm not sure. I'm not sure if the dog, or it's owner, should be responsible for it's actions ... or summat. More importantly - the worst form of 'Capital Punishment' is having to visit the fecking London Eye.
RE: OK Windy my turn to raise to the bait Ok assuming there is a prescription drug out there that could change a normal person into a violent paedophile rapist. Maybe we could......ooh I don't know........get the police to ask a couple of questions? Perhaps run a couple of checks before we throw a rope over the nearest lamp post. And we've done the "where do you draw the line" thing to death. It's a cop out. Luckily there are those who are willing to step up and make those difficult decisions. The answer, in this case, is on the other side of something like this.
