What freeloaders? The UK is at full employment and has been for years. There *is* an element of society that doesn't work - but these are mainly those who are unable to work due to long-term sickness, disability, etc. - and yes, there are some that are unwilling to work and "take the piss". But the Tories have spent 14 years reducing their benefits and trying to force them to work - *and they still aren't*. For these few, we are past the point where the stick works and we are spending more money trying to get people to work than we would ever pay them in benefits if they never worked. The problem is that the government since 2010 has imported workers rather than invest in productivity, so we are less productive as workers - and an economy. So living standards slip. But the Tories - and their friends in Reform - are ideologically incapable of doing anything other than the cheapest solution - importing more bodies. So things will get worse and they'll blame the immigrants again. And people will vote for them, and things will get worse and they'll blame the immigrants. https://x.com/Frances_Coppola/status/1797934487462126015
Good policy that. We all want improved services from the NHS. To show it’s definitely true and will happen, he ought to highlight it to the voting public by painting it on a bus or something.
And many do, but they're not allowed to work. My friends helped out with English conversation lessons to the kids of a family from Iraq a few years back. Their father spoke excellent English, and was an architect who had worked on some pretty impressive buildings. Probably could have walked into a job in any architectural firm in the country, but it didn't matter - not permitted. They had no legal option but to be supported by the state. I'm not in touch with them now, but this definitely went on for years. Ludicrous state of affairs.
I think that is spot on. It's actually a threat to democracy, or at least the limited version we have in the UK. Look at the US to see where this might take us. That's why the current Labour Party is so depressing. No vision, no hope, no intent to tackle the underlying problems within the Country. The whole conversation around Farage is pretty futile and irrelevant except in that he currently represents a home for those frustrated by the current political class or those too lazy to bother getting a little self education. It's not that he has any redeeming views or qualities: just another member of the establishment telling everyone how anti establishment he is, and how his ilk are much better for the Country.
I stopped reading at the UK is at full employment because it isn't. You then go on to contriduct yourself.
Plenty of jobs out there. Even in my line of work we struggle to find suitable people who can turn up Monday and then repeat for another 4 days.
Depends on your definition of full employment. Most governments use a value of 75% to 80% of citizens being in work. The UK currently has 74.5% in work. That's pretty close. Other definitions state that unemployment of 5% constitutes full employment. The UK is currently at 4.3% which would mean full employment. The governor of the Bank of England said in March this year that the UK is "near or at full employment"
Like said my works crying out for more people and looking on job sites plenty of vacancies. Begs the question why are more people coming if there's no jobs for them.
Full employment doesn't mean there's no jobs, it means all the available workers have jobs (or those out of work aren't seeking employment eg pensioners or long term disabled).
Exactly. Of the population, something like 20% are kids, 30% are retired and of the remainder, about 20-30% are unable to work at any time. This can be due to injury/illness (including pregnancy), studying, caring, prisoners or disability. We get much above 80% of the potential workforce actually working and its a modern miracle. If everybody is working and there are vacancies, then companies are unable to produce everything they need and productivity falls despite full employment. It can lead to wage rises, but these aren't necessarily good for the economy if it means that lower-paid roles, like social care or nursery nursing, are left-vacant. So companies can't get workers - which means that we need to bring more in - or they need to attract those who are employed - by increasing pay.
Read up on Alex Jones. Watch a couple of episodes of infowars (preferably ones where he denies Sandy Hook happened) then get back to me on what you think about your hero appearing on his show six times.
The problem is employers want all the skills without being prepared to spend on training and qualifications.
