Well done. Keep going. Personally, I started taking the Mounjaro injections in June 2024. For context, I'm 36, fairly active, active job and play, train and coach football 3 days a week. But I was still piling weight on. Tried fad diets and lost nothing for years. Thought I'd give these a go. My starting weight was 18st 4lb. On a 5'10'' frame thats pretty heavy. Anyway, 10 months on and I'm 12st 2lb, haven't taken a jab for over a month and had no adverse effects. Now, these aren't for everyone and in no way am I suggesting people take it. I'm only giving my personal experience. What worked for me might not work for you. I would recommend speaking to your GP if you are considering them.
According to Google the monjaro jab , aids weight loss by mimicking natural hormones that regulate appetite and blood sugar, leading to reduced hunger and increased feelings of fullness, ultimately promoting weight loss. I suppose these Jabs are a good thing but like I say I don't know enough about them side effects etc. I've always tried to keep active and healthy I'm in good shape for my age. I've posted a few times on here that obesity costs the country billions some of it is avoidable some isn't so things like this could be good.
Have you been to see a podiatrist? Having support or heel inserts can help a lot with it as it takes the pressure off.
That’s some loss that, what dosage are you on? I was nearly 19stone same height as you, took up running and tried to eat healthier and lost about 2 stone, then got diagnosed with Diabetes and went on the jabs and lost about 3 stone but also increased running to 5/6 times a week between 50-60 miles so not sure how much of it was just the jabs. The only real ‘downside’ for me is when I’m training for a Marathon fueling meals wise is really hard and actually have to force myself to eat food every couple of hours as can’t eat big portions.
As it happens, I don't drink, barring three or four times a year (Xmas, football presentation night etc). But no, nothing tastes different at all. What it did for me was curb my appetite. I could've gotten in from work, thought nothing of grabbing a couple of bags of crisps, a biscuit or two...then onto tea...then picking and poking for the rest of the evening. What the jab did was make food irrelevant to me if that makes sense. I still eat really small portions and feel nicely full, I have the odd "treat" like a biscuit or a little bar of chocolate every now and again. It completely reset my thoughts on food and portion sizes. Mounjaro is the brand name for the drug Tirzepitide. Tirzepitide regulates how quickly your stomach empties into your large intestine. So you eat, and feel full for ages. For example. I get to work at 06:30, call to a shop and buy a bag of beef jerky. I don't consume anything else (apart from water/coffee) until 5 or 6pm when I have my tea. And my tea is a normal portion. I never feel hunger. Whereas before the jabs, I could eat my tea and immediately be thinking "hmm what can I have now". That's gone. I can't speak highly enough of it. But again, that doesn't mean that it'll work that way for someone else, so please don't just dive in and buy them.
I started as instructed on the 2.5mg, went to 5mg, then to 7.5mg, stopped at 10mg as it was working wonders at that point so I saw no reason to up it any more. There was 12.5mg and 15mg which I could have gone to, but there was no need. That was a monthly increase. Then phased myself back down in reverse order. If I can find it, I'll put my before pic and one from today when I go downstairs. I'm not in anyway looking for backslaps or praise etc. I shouldn't have been that big in the first place, it was my own fault completely (although that isn't the case for everyone, of course).
I have indeed. I was assessed and told of the above, but I genuinely don’t get any aggro unless I play football or something strenuous like that. Which I no longer do. But I would like to get into running I think so it might be something I need to think about.
Will look into this , I am into low carb dieting ,the gin n slim line tonic helps it's just the liver that's F×÷+=D ,
Good effort mate ,keep it up . I need some motivation, this thread is just the key. Met someone on here Alan I think, at keep fit reds at Barnsley FC a good 10 years ago ,it was a great incentive from BFC for over 50s. Just started back at the walking cricket. Going to try and get to the walking football. This post should be kept up to motivate us fat lads to try a bit harder. Fair play for starting the thread.
Going to be a good thread to follow this, from my experience - if you’ve got the physicality to do so, get to the Gym! It makes a massive difference, I’m there around 4/5 times a week, try and not hammer the cardio either - it’s the weights that make the difference, I’ve cut down on cardio loads & can tell the difference massively in the mirror. You’ll feel much better for it & I find I don’t have to go on any crazy diets either, can still enjoy sweet treats etc.
Imagine been stood in WMC at union meeting 30 years ago with gin n tonic in hand. We had have been ripped the piss out lol
Anecdotally I reckon walking is key, and it doesnt have to be a massive all-day hike. I've been a solid 11 stone forever no matter how much or how badly I eat and drink, and I genuinely put it down almost entirely to not driving! Twenty minutes round trip to the supermarket two or three times a week, forty minutes to the post office and back, even just the walks either side of a bus journey - it all adds up. I don't think it's a coincidence that obesity has increased step by step with car dependence.
It appears from the comments from people who are on it that it works by suppressing your appetite, thereby reducing your calories. That is something that you can do entirely by yourself, without the jabs, but you’d have a far less fun time of it as you have to ignore the cravings which the jabs stop (but you do get more enjoyment out of the food you do eat). Whether you’d prefer to do it under willpower alone or with the help of the jabs seems to be the deciding factor but either way it is just consuming less calories, it’s not magically doing anything different. I don’t know if there is a right or wrong answer if there are truly no side effects. It reminds me of women who are proud of giving birth with no pain relief but does it matter when both women have a baby at the end of the day? Or quitting smoking with the help of nicotine patches verses resisting the urge.
Cheers for the in-depth assessment. I'm not worried about eating less. That would definitely not be a bad thing. But I am worried about not enjoying the things I do eat. That would just be really sad. Are you going to continue on the very low dosage? Edit - Sorry, just read you've stopped completely. Have you not noticed your appetite returning?
Some great in depth descriptions of how as blokes we can drop a few pounds . Easy formula burn more than you take in. That's easier said than done 50 plus
