    RE: YOU REDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Redfearn was a superb leader, full of passion and never say die qualities, a fantastic servant and a legend.
Ronnie was a totally different player, when he picked the ball up on the half way line and ran at the oppositon, there was an excitement around the ground that i have never seen for any other player. His goal tally of nearly a goal every other game from MIDFIELD, is still remarkable to this day. I am so glad to have witnessed the best player we have had or will ever have at Oakwell. A fooballing genius! (worship) (worship) (worship) (worship) (worship) (worship) (worship)

RE: I am lucky enough to have seen both players and..........

You might think Glavin was the better player but to say he is more than 20 times better than Redders is utter B*ll*cks

All 1st division, Swansea top of the league at the time - numpties?

Also in 2nd division at the time were Norwich, Leicester, Newcastle, Blackburn, Chelsea, Watford, Luton and QPR to name but a few. Oh and crap team from Sheffield as well.

Best we have ever had is Tommy Taylor...

had he not been tragically killed l reckon he would have been one of Englands greatest strikers alongside Duncan Edwards.

Twenty times better?? Can't comment on whether Glavin was better or not but if he was there is no way he was that much better

Didn't Glavin play most of his gamesfor us when we were in 3/4 tier?

and maybe a season in the second tier? where as Redfearn was against Championship level and a season in the Premiership against the worlds best players throughout is Barnsley career? I started watching the Reds in Glavins final season but i'm going with Redfearn based on the fact that all his games were against the top two tiers opposition where as 80% of Glavins Barnsley appearances were against the lower leagues.

...well, I'm sure he was playing for you :D

I liked Gordon Owen when he came to us btw, so he'd get my obviously biased vote.

RE: Didn't Glavin play most of his gamesfor us when we were in 3/4 tier?

Spot on. Glavin was a fantastic player, and probably would have still done it for us at the top level he was that good, but he didn't. He did it in the lower leagues. Redfearn, however, was a major part of us getting to the TOP division and while there he was as good as any midfielder in that division. Redfearn shades it for me. But I would like to think they are too different to compare so choose them both.

For me it has to be Redfearn, i would love to see him back as manager one day. True gent and will always be a barnsley legend.

    No he didn't

Glavin played 5 full seasons with us 1979/80, 80/81, 81/92, 82/83 & 83/84. He came back from Portugal and played around half the 85/86 season. The first two were in the Third Division, that's all.

Neil Redfern he showed true passion for Barnsley. Jonh Hendrie has got to be one of the best signings of all time without him we would never have got to the Prem, he was true class whilst he played in a red shirt.
