    Noooooooo!!!!

Certain things should never be reprised! They usually end up as pale imitations or worse. In the film World, whilst Wizard of Oz was never on my list of favourite films it was a classic. 'Return to Oz' was 'dismal' and failed IMO of reviving the original magic and was downright dour and depressing.
'Re-imagining' a word Hollywood dreamed up usually results in an over CGI'd, badly conceived , badly written rehash of a classic which should have been left alone along with all the prequels and sequels made to keep the franchises going and the money coming in at the same time avoiding having to come up with fresh ideas. Fortunately there are still some fresh ideas that emerge. The other trend is to, rather than provide some original soundtrack, use a mish-mash of well used music from the pop and rock world or, like Tarantino regurgitate old film scores. (either that or use Hands Zimmer to provide the usual blockbuster huge orchestral backdrops. )
For example, the original 'Jason Bourne' trilogy was, IMO, a classic of its genre - well cast, well written, well acted with a great original soundtracks (and with a great 'outro' during the credits from Moby) and forced the jaded Bond franchises to re-evaluate and up their game. Unfortunately they made two further 'Bourne' films, neither of which added anything to the original concept.
Rarely, very rarely a remake does actually better the original e.g. the latest attempt at 'All quiet on the Western front' albeit one past attempt starring Henry Thomas -John Boy Walton- failed to improve on the original 1930 version.

As regards classic TV comedies.. We should accept them for what they were a product of their time. Some probably go a bit too far for modern day sensibilities but, Fawlty towers, even the infamous 'Germans' episodes and the inclusion of the downtrodden 'foreigner' Manuel in each episode , given they were satirical and intentionally lampooned racism, still hold up as does period comedy like Hi-Di-Hi, Dad's army, etc. Whether people still find the actually funny is an entirely different matter.

Whether Cleese is a genius or not is open to discussion, but his decision to make only 12 episodes of Fawlty Towers WAS a stroke of genius. IMO it should be left that way.
