I think it was actually the last 2 weeks in August, but anyway, the 2 things id like to add is, all different areas had different Holiday times. Just what they are talking about reintroducing now. I used to work in Wigan at one time and they had something called Wigan fortnight, which was at the start of June. And ever one who as ever been to Blackpool has heard of Scott's week... And also a awful lot of Barnsley baby's were born at the end of May time...cos it was 9 months after Barnsley Feast.. everyone was a bit more relaxed on there Hols see...

Having fish and chips with my Mum and Dad. He said he thought they used to sell “sloppy peas” on their own at Barnsley feast. Seems a strange thing to sell on its own?

It’s quite okay to call it a Fair. You just need not to have been brought up in Barnsley!

    Quite common in the Midlands.

Terry's peas are famous and there's now quote a few stalls that copy him on Nottingham

At least they sell other things as well. As far as I remember Terry literally only sells mushy peas with optional mint sauce

It's a few years since I last went; they seem to have expanded their range of delicacies. ;)

We either called it a breadcake or a ginnel.

Fair. Will never be anything else to me!

I’d never even heard it called a feast until someone moved to my street from Wombwell and that’s what they called it.

I'm also from Wombwell and always knew it as feast. The field it used to be on when I was a kid was even called the 'feast field'. Used to be where the cop shop now is, on Park Street. I think Aldham field also became known as 'feast field' when it moved there. I didn't think it was just a Wombwell thing, but mebbi it was...

Well it was only a week and if I recall exactly it commenced the first Saturday after the 21st of August. It was our form of a wakes week for factories, pits, shops etc.
