Did Warrington never win it when they had that good spell in the last decade? Bradford being where they are after the Noble/Fielding/Peacock/Vainikolo team blows my head.
Yeah its a shame to see some former impressive top division teams struggling at that level, most notably Bradford and Widnes.
Widnes were a great side in the eighties and seemed to win loads but that was before the Super League and when the Champions were the ones who won the league !
Yeah I remember them winning the League title twice in a row, in the late 80s. And they also played us in the Premiership Final, twice in three years. But that was way before Sky came in and ruined the game, yes I definitely think its much worse now than it used to be!.
Have you seen some of those aggressive comments on YT, about Feth and the fans ?. Saying they regularly chant racist and abusive comments all the time, to away clubs and fans. And that its only the Wakefield areas 3rd best side (out of 3), and its just a run down coal mining village etc. I'm not exactly a Feth fan myself of course, but this sort of thing annoys the hell out of me.
I've seen them on RL fans forum and it's usually Bulls fans,I've had some ding dogs but don't bother now let em get on with it. It's same ones all the time. VERY FEW Fev fans did/ do chant but they blow it all out of proportion ( no need for it cos we ALL get tarred with same brush). Anyway hopefully London will go up and the SL teams will make plenty of money from the travelling fans -----
That surprises me if its the Bradford fans who are saying this. Surely they should be looking a bit closer to home when dishing out the insane drivel, have you seen how bad their Odsal ground looks!!. I'm from the Five-towns area of course (six if you count Wakey the plastic city lol), and I know fans of all three teams. Like you say, a small minded minority tend to spoil it for the majority, and other people start believing it then.
It undoubtedly is, back in the pre Sky days we could produce lots of great players, although it was always tough, we could compete with Australia... around 1968 the old man and me watched Yorkshire beat the touring Kangaroos.. imagine that today. In those days we could produce artists.. Alex Murphy, Boston, Fox Hardisty, Hepworth, Topliss, Sullivan, Gill, Eckersley, Norton, Reilly, Ashurst, Nash, Bowden, Hughes, Wright, Schofield... plus a load more... Hard men were ten a penny.. where has it all gone? The top and bottom of it is that Super League is not an Elite competition, it was championed by the Wigan bookie Lindsay and a few mates to get rid of the 'embarrassing' traditional core clubs and leave a franchise business for those that the horrible little s**t thought were deserving of being opponents to Wigan, Saints, Leeds. This was supported by Sky, basically because they know nothing about Rugby League or its past. If so they would have understood that RL is and always was a Northern English game and no amount of hype or finance can turn it into a global spectacular 'product'... no matter how many times they say 'we've got a great product'. Sorry for the rant.
Yeah I remember you saying on here before, how much Lindsay has to answer for. The disappointing downfall of what British RL used to be about, is all down to him and Sky. And goodness knows what would have happened, if those club mergers had gone through, and that was all his idea. But his glory clubs Wigan and Saints and Leeds were exempt of course, no surprise there.
Very well put but TRY and say anything on RL fans forums and they aren't bothered about any teams apart from Wigan,Saints, Leeds and Warrington, they want expansion and its never worked but they won't have it. Tolouse and London bring so much to the ģme - still waiting to find out because it certainly ain't supporters. Featherstone would have taken plenty of supporters and it's not as far as London or Tolouse, but let them get on with it they are ruining the game but won't have it. They want Catalans in but now they've got to the GF they've moaning it will be a poor attendance- i give up!!!
SL was formed to be better at competing with Australia and New Zealand, we are further way then ever lol.
Not an RL fan but I remember a televised debate when the SL was first proposed, can’t remember who put the case for SL but a young Ian Clayton from Fev put up a very commendable performance against SL. Ian, as you probably know went on to become an accomplished presenter in his own right, until he upset the tv heirarchy with his political feelings (Allegedly) I met Ian a few years ago at a TU learning conference in Hull. This was after he had tragically lost his daughter in a Kayak/ Canoeing accident. He’s a very likeable ‘ infectious’ character and a pleasure to be around.Got a signed copy of his book ‘ Bring it on home’
