Worryingly, it is the more severe and strict leaderships that seem to appeal to people. The painfully mild Church of England is haemorrhaging members.

Is it the more severe that appeal or is it the fear of reprisals.

The reduction in the numbers of the Church of England may be down to people not believing in organised religion and feeling they have better things to do with their time ?

In the words of Homer Simpson

"I'm not a bad guy, I work hard, and I love my kids... so why should I spend half my Sunday hearing about how I'm going to hell?" God agrees to let Homer worship in his own way.

    "The average Muslim person"?? Hmmmm!!!.......

.......Such as in Saudi Arabia where non-believers are not allowed to see Mecca (the highway has a junction where non-Muslims are diverted around the 'Holy City' ) Someone is sentenced to 50 lashes a week until they have received 1000 simply because they said something humorous regarding the religion. Women are banned from driving. Any Western women are arrested for not earing the veil or covering their heads.
These are not fanatics or terrorists they are Muslim States, Governments and Institution. We are not even talking about Taliban regions where a man not wearing a beard results in a fine or imprisonment or women are banned from education. The 'average Muslim' expects Westerners to respect THEIR beliefs and outdated customs and yet to do as they please when living in a Western Christian/Secular society. Incidentally, the type of 'average' Muslims you refer to are those you encounter most frequently who have become 'Westernised' and do not follow the true path of Islam. The dogma is largely based on myth and legend (as with all religions). Many 'rules' for Islam (and Judaism for that matter) are based on basic hygiene laws applicable to hot climates where refrigeration and curing of meats/ fish etc were unknowns ...washing only in running water, not eating pork meat, eating with right hand (we all know what the left hand was for!). These became ritualised rather than being regarded as sensible rules.

As a previous poster said, they ARE all living in the dark ages as even moderate Islam is a relic and superstitious dogma that should be consigned to history.

ALL organised religions have nothing to do with a 'God' in any shape or form. They are man-made and a means for the clever few to manipulate and control the majority. End of!

It was the Ayatollah Khomeini who stated" An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humour in Islam. There is no fun in Islam."
He also stated "Music is no different from Opium"

    Says it all really.

    Good Morning

My soul waits for God alone. He alone is my rock and my salvation. Trust in him at all times, O people. Power and love belong to God.

Nothing wrong with that! You talk about God...nothing to do with religion. Faith is one thing. Organised religion is something completely different. You have a good day too!

    What is your soul?

    I guess, as a non-believer, I don't have one. So far I don't think I've missed it.

We are just animals that evolved over millions of years to have big brains which are capable of incredible things, including language, imagination and logic amongst others. We are only special in the natural world by way of our intelligence.

I lost my faith in religion years ago yet I don't follow the 'science is the answer' mantra. One part of me sees AI developments and makes me think we are basically highly sophisticated self repairing machines. However, science throws up more questions than answers (possibly why many scientists have belief in a higher being). Science only explains the HOW but not the WHY! Besides a part of me wants to believe that the sh*ts in this world get their come-uppance whilst the Mother Theresa's of this world are rewarded. Me I try to get through life without intentionally hurting anyone, look after me and mine first and foremost and, from time to time, help someone when I can.

    PS...

An Inuit asked a Missionary who had come to spread the word " If I didn't know about God and committed a sin would I go to Hell?".
The missionary thought about this for a while and said... "If you didn't know, you would not"
The Innuit replied. "Then why did you tell me?"

That is the basis of all philosophy and the question that greater minds than mine have discussed and failed to answer. Why are we here and what is the point of the Universe? No point really asking 'cos we will never know.

Re: I agree with you 100%

My comments were that Sharia law does force medieval values on people and comparing that to the murders in Norway is just ridiculous. The comments to call somebody an idiot were out of order.

I personally get the feeling that this editions cover is intended more as a '**** you' to Muslims but with a very clever caption to disguise that and pretend something else is meant.

I also think there is a massive difference between a joke and an insult. Poke fun at a religion and its fine.make a joke about Christianity and its fine. But publish a british newspaper with a cover saying that god is a lovely person and Mary was nothing but a dirty little slag who shagged the entire village and you've moved from humour to deliberatly insulting and that is out of order. The original images such as Mohammad with a bomb as his turban weren't funny, they weren't supposed to be funny, they were deliberatly insulting and to be honest out of order.

None of this excuses murder in any way at all but then how many people have commited murder because of it? 3 out of over a billion? The rest have just been a annoyed. And before anyone says its typical Muslims getting pissed off. How many non Muslims in the UK were going livid when a small group of Muslims burnt a poppy? Literally millions.

Re: I agree with you 100%

Are you seriously comparing shows like TOWIE to Sharia Law. There are problems in Western countries, there are corrupt people in positions of responsibility and authority but that is a world away from being able to draw comparisons to being stoned to death for 'alleged' adultery or 'alleged blasphemy'.

Just for the record there are many people in this country who think people who watch **** like Geordie Shore are backwards.

You were the one that brought up sharia law! As far as I am aware, we dont have it here or in France, so how is that in anyway relsted to the original thread?
He called all muslims backward, never mentioned where or when, you did.

    sent from little boat chippy
