It’s more damning than the YP piece, both in content and the fact it’s come from the most local of local papers. Good on O’ Kane.
Why should they care? They've not put a penny into the club and have no emotional connection to the town, club or supporters....
I think that’s exactly the sort of thing a local paper should be printing, picks up perfectly the state of the club on the mood of the fans, personally I hope a national takes it up and starts to seriously pick at the ‘facts’ .
Its definitely not illegal, though it could contravene the contract depending on the terms signed. But given its a moral point for fans at least, you’d think it would make it something easier to discuss in the public domain.
True, as you said, in that case it's more likely the papers have been advised to skirt round that one until the court case has been heard.
The Barnsley Chronicle has in the past, always resisted pressure to publish popular opinion and was happy to report only the facts. The facts only became facts once they were confirmed by a club spokesperson. In the past, it never sought to glorify its own position by siding with the critics and against club management. It always attempted to maintain its neutrality in spite of the temptation to side with pressure groups. It did so partly because that has always been its position as the local news gatherer, and partly because these things are hard to judge properly without full access to information, facts and current financial records. Not only that, the Chronicle is staffed by journalists, and no matter how qualified they might think they are to make these judgments, frankly, they are qualified only to listen, read and record what has been said. When I was young, it irritated me that the Chronicle would not support the current hot topic, the current criticism of the Football Club by the fans. I was young then, and just at hot headed as most youngster are today. I thought that I knew it all. I thought that I had all the answers. It turned out that I knew nothing, and I did not even have the experience to know it. Now, I am old. I understand why the newspaper must maintain it neutrality. I understand that it will learn more if it does so, than if it attempts to stir the pot in order to get things moving. Now I know how ignorant I am, how poorly placed I am to collect and judge the evidence, and how unlikely I am to reach a correct judgement. Once upon a time, The Barnsley Chronicle did not want to be the judge and the jury. It was quite happy to report the facts and let readers make up their own minds. I do not like the new Barnsley Chronicle and I do not think the change in their reporting ethos is well thought through.
Why what did they say that wasn't a fact in that comment? They say fans have been driven away just the evidence found on here shows that's true They say more will be driven away if things carry on the same way again just from evidence of comments on here that's true. They say the young midfield as been poor and dominated again who can truthfully argue with that. I'm sorry but after reading the article there isn't one assertion in it that's factually incorrect and I think it refreshing that two local journos Leon in the YP and Doug in the chronicle have been prepared to say what going off at Oakwell just isnt good enough and reflect the feeling of the fans rather than just ignore it and just spout club propaganda.
Paul Conway to open his mouth and swallow a commemorative Chien Lee Barnsley F.C chocolate dildo whole.
With the depth of feeling this post doesn't stir the pot? Have you been promised a place on the board? It's the 5hit style advocated by you on the pitch that's got tongues wagging in the first place. You've got your possession football and you've got a team in bottom three.
You seem to not like younger people very much and seem to feel that you are better than them because you're older. It's a theme that's ran through your posts for years. Guess what. age doesn't equal better
Frankly, Mr. Shankly, I'm a sickening wreck I've got the twenty-first century breathing down my neck I must move fast, you understand me I want to go down in celluloid history, Mr. Shankly Fame, fame, fatal fame It can play hideous tricks on the brain But still I'd rather be famous Than righteous or holy, any day, any day, any day But sometimes I'd feel more fulfilled Making Christmas cards with the mentally ill I want to live and I want to love I want to catch something that I might be ashamed of Frankly, Mr. Shankly, this position I've held It pays my way, and it corrodes my soul Oh, I didn't realise that you wrote poetry I didn't realise you wrote such bloody awful poetry, Mr. Shankly Frankly, Mr. Shankly, since you ask You are a flatulent pain in the arse I do not mean to be so rude Still, I must speak frankly, Mr. Shankly Oh, give us your money!
It's a good article and really does sum up the mood. Would like it to touch on the £750k in some way. I'm a season ticket holder who has attended 4 games. Currently I don't feel like I will go again. Given that it's seems even more unlikely I will renew my ticket. The only thing making me consider it is losing my seat around a great group of people. If i don't renew then its possible it could be years before I would come back.
I wouldn't be surprised if that great group around you isn't really there anymore anyway. It's what I've noticed around the ground. The groups that have existed for decades just aren't there
My post is a post about the way that The Barnsley Chronicle has changed its style of reporting. It is about why I do not like it and why I think it is a mistake. I do not think that I am better because I am older, and in fact in many ways, I am worse. For example my memory is not what it was and I find that a constant irritation. I do not say that people should not state their opinions on the BBS, and have those opinions debated. Many are happy that the Barnsley Chronicle has supported their opinion, but I do not think that it is the role of the local newspaper to support one side against the other, especially when the facts are not clear and the current position has not been accurately established. The Chronicle used to take its name seriously. It used to be the chronicler of local events. A place where you could find unbiased reporting of the established facts. In order to do that, it must not take sides in any argument.
‘keeping alternatives open but the goal is to stay at Oakwell.’ Bad enough the idea of moving from Oakwell but chuff me, if that happens we'll never score.
