That's the issue mate. I think its open 3 hours a day? Not 100% sure so don't quote me on that but, yeah, not great.

Far too many chippys only open for an hour or two a day and seem to close on random days. Must be made of money he owners only opening for a few hours a week

Aye it's not great. I often find the ***** chippys seem to be open all day and the good ones are barely ever open. I always use wombwell as an example, the high street has some awful chippys but due to their prime location they can stay open all day.

That's true as well. Location tends to allow terrible chippys to stay open all day.

The other one that annoys me is how portion sizes vary so wildly between chip shops and how some rely on their reputation as a way to fleece you.

Shaw at dodworth is a prime example. The building looks nice and they have a great reputation so they give small portions. I bought a large fish from there and it was smaller than the ones you get free from hook a duck.

I think that one only opens randomly as well

Another vote for Tunstall Cross here - I definitely prefer it to Summer Lane if all you want is Fish Chips and Peas. Regular Saturday lunchtime treat when I come up for home games

Old Keswickian in Keswick. The best F & C ever ! I have to warm them up in the oven by the time I get them home though :)

And here's another vote for Tunstall Cross - in addition I think the son of a former proprietor runs (or used to - it's been a while since I last went) a chippy in Brampton behind where the fire station used to be.

The Brampton chippy is our favourite in the area. Not tried many of the others though. Its a bit out of the way, but the one at Rawmarsh with the restaurant attached is great too.

Must admit I'm quite surprised at The Colonel himself seeking out alternative eateries to his very own 'finger lickin' good' chicken houses.

It's not unusual at all. I saw Captain Birdseye and Ronald McDonald having Chilli Dog and pint special in Weatherspoons earlier.

I heard about this earlier, pissed me off to be honest because every time I go in Brammahs I'm made to take my hat off, yet this bearded muppet Birdseye just swans in and gets the red carpet treatment. **** house.

Anyway, you'll not see Percy Turner eating a Greggs so kiss my plimsole.

That was Patrick Cryne and Angus McDonald. I actually saw them having a good laugh at you when that young, camp barman ordered you to take your Stetson off.

Incidentally, Hecky has made Angus do a few shifts at Stairfoot McDonalds during his suspension period. Not as a form of punishment by the way, just a kind gesture to allow him to top up his wages !

That's odd, never found them greasy at all and being going for about 15 years.

Don't like greasy fish and chips myself and put a kitchen towel on top to absorb any excess grease but there's only a small amount at Tunstalls.
