Re: Whether yoy agree or disagree with criticsims isn't the point.. And I very much doubt that I'll disagree more with one of your posts ST. Which is a worry, considering.....
Bang on - but as I recall, the question was put to him (Flitcroft) in such a manner that it suggested that people were saying the ONLY reason he'd signed Pollitt was that they were mates, which goes to the very heart of Flitcroft's integrity and professionalism. Something which a few on here can't help themselves doing to try and reinforce their own view. It seems difficult to take issue with our start to the season without running down the management and players character, not their performance. Lest we forget, when he took over we were points adrift of safety and had played more games than those above us. Also, let's be reight - he's just come through a traumatic time in his personal life. Now those that think as soon as you get involved in professional football you should become an emotion free robot will doubtless take issue with this, but I think we should try and take stuff like that into context when he bites at mischievous questions. Personally I think he's earned the right to drop some ******** as he learns more this season - I have real issues with some stuff, but it's a bit soon to be wanting him given the bullet - unless you've never taken to him cos he's Keith Hill's mate, how you think he treats your particular player you think you're mates with or some such nonsense. Blah blah etc.
To be honest mate, I wish I'd never posted that link to Mike Pollitt's interview. I thought it was a bit of a laugh and assumed others would see it that way. Manager signs 41 year old goalkeeper he went to Rhodes with over the summer. What's not funny in that? Everything it seems. Apologies if I've offended anyone, including our manager. My only excuse is that I have grown up in an environment where you rip the piss out of one another. I worked in a factory on leaving school and then delivered coal for a living as I paid for my education. I worked with some right rough b'astards and the way you get through the day when you're doing such a shitty job is by pillocking one another. Being the youngster in the team and studying to get in to Uni meant that I had to bear the brunt of it, but I had enough about me to win a few battles. Win or lose, you just shrug your shoulders, laugh it off and prepare for the next bout. I stand by everything I have said when addressing the subject seriously, but I am fully aware that a couple of posts I made were ribbing our manager. If that kind of attitude is not acceptable on here than I will try to curtail it, but I can't promise anything, because the day I stop finding humour in such situations will be the day I jump off something really high. If Flicker wants to kick the **** out of me round the back of the East Stand and if others want to make a huge issue of it then so be it. I'm sure I'll survive and find something else amusing in a few weeks time which will piss them all off all over again. For what it's worth I think Flitcroft did an amazing job last season, probably the best set of results from any manager in the 30+ years I've been watching Barnsley. I think he's the right man for the job and I'm not particularly concerned that we haven't done that well in our first four league games. If anyone wants to paint me as anti Flitcroft or anti Barnsley then I'm afraid you're wrong, but you're welcome to your opinion. I'll continue to express my opinion as I see fit and you can continue to think I'm a lovely person.
I'm with Don Rowing - the internet's worst thing ever invented. We never knew if Jim Iley, Allan Clarke, Norman Hunter, etc etc signed anyone they were pals with, and to be fair we'd have not really cared and like you say would have pillocked the issue over a pint on a Friday night. Now though, we think we've the right to know every detail of everything and we then have the right to put our fcking nonsense into print on the internet which gives it some sort of credence. You posting the article isn't the issue - it's people who take themselves and their opinions WAY too seriously that are.
It doesn't seem to put you off though. Unfortunately. Or are you including yourself in that two thirds?
' You posting the article isn't the issue - it's people who take themselves and their opinions WAY too seriously that are.' That's the top and bottom of it
