£30 a year, it includes screening costs and the cost of returning failed applicants to another country.

Your “manxtyke” user name reminded me of a story from the past. A bloke I knew was worried because his wife was ill. He was giving the NHS a proper slagging off regarding the treatment she received and the time it took.
That bloke was a millionaire who chose to live in Isle of Man so didn’t have to pay tax. He didn’t have a clue about the irony of the situation. I suppose he went private and pushed some UK tax payer further down the list and if he did, I’d guess he wouldn’t see the irony in that either.
Take from that story what you will.

And takes no account of the increase in numbers we’ve seen this year. 4 million unemployed next year, so how will these immigrants who are to enrich our country earn their corn when there aren't enough jobs for those of us who are here already ??

There hasn't been an increase in numbers.

Dunno, it might even cost a full £40. I'm sure the government will be thrilled that in tough times your focus is on immigrants rather than their shambolic handling of brexit/covid.

Whilst I may agree with your appraisal We weren't discussing the governments shambolic handling of brexit/covid. I’m highlighting the socio economic costs, no one seems to have answered my question on where all these migrants are going to work and how they are going to contribute if we’re already staring down the barrel of 4m of us unemployed in 2021 ??

    In
in recorded numbers. If memory serves weren't the police not to arrest them but to request them to stand still and await border force officers. I may be wrong but I’m sure I saw it on one of those Traffic Cops style programmes where they film the police in day to day action ?

No that's not the case and to my knowledge never been the case. Police have the write to detain suspected illegals, usually at a police station pending a visit from an immigration enforcement officer. Something tells me it's the media being fed a line by those in government. I can confirm this year has been no different to last year and the year before that.

This thread is about migrants. Immigration has next to zero negative impact to us. It’s not making us full, it’s not stopping you getting into the Doctors. We are actually net beneficiaries of immigration. All the things that are stopping you getting a doctors appointment or getting a school place at your favoured school is due to austerity.

There’s a few thousand a year come over the Channel. It’s absolutely nothing. But yet people want to send them to the sharks or have a massive debate about it whilst the government rip the country to bits in the shadows.

Strange that you repeatedly choose to bang this drum and conveniently ignore the bigger impacts on the working man. It's almost as though you don't like them funny looking foreigners

I'll tell you all a little story, my wife was pregnant with our daughter she had a few complications so we had a few emergency visits to Barnsley A&E. My wife was treated by an African consultant who arrived in this country via boat, air and lorry. He used counterfeit documentation, we got talking after he asked me what i did for a living. By the letter of law he broke it many times in numerous countries. My family especially my daughter who's healthy and bright has a button are so happy he did. So when folk wonder why someone in my job isn't overly bothered about folk escaping war torn areas and claiming asylum legally there's your answer. He's been here since 2011 by the way.

Glad your family got the care they needed. But we’re back to Sir Robert turning in his grave again, the police aren't there to apply the law when they see fit, it should be applied equally. But lets not do that one again.

I know enough. I know you lack compassion and have an "I'm alright Jack" attitude... if the cap fits and all that.

You keep banging on about Robert Peel he put in place an organised group which worked to uphold the law. Before that it was a mess, Robert Peel himself when he became a politician openly stated on numerous occasions that the law at times as many areas of grey.
We live in 2020 not 1820.
Police if by rule of law should be should be nicking folk for all sorts. The average copper would have 300 arrests a day with your logic. Instead they police by consent and if a telling off is needed for breaking the is needed they make the judgement call.
Again folk claiming asylum aren't breaking an local, national or international laws.

Just to add I don't and never have idolised Sir Robert Robert Peel. Instead my hero was a local lad from Sheffield who recently retired. He worked on the ripper case, then was in the vicinity when he got caught. He was only a Sgt like me but advised me to try out everything. I followed his advice, we never worked together formally until a weird situation meant we worked together in Florida (cant disclose which is a shame it's a reight story). He understood the world brilliantly, he trained many officers locally and nationally a proper copper who is a credit to SYP. His few on immigration is the same as mine, so I'll take that as I'm right. My current employer until this lot got in also agreed with this approach (in quiet cos the Daily Heil). Most officers I work with are of the same opinion and we're embarrassed by the politicking of the right wing government and their mates. We've all travelled and done our work, including in the Mediterranean (which was the most grizzly job I've ever done). That I think gives us the ability to put such anti immigration stories into perspective.
