Are these Romany folk a permanent fixture in that neck of the woods then?

    Yes.

They used to like to brawl with the locals down Low Valley and Wombwell.

Think there's a 'travellers' camp in Low Valley now.

To be fair I don't know if they go up that far, mate of mine lives in those relatively new houses round corner from Longbow - seems fairly quiet where he lives. But last thing you want is your investment disappearing cos they've made it their 'local'.....

Aye, they can be a handful

can a wreck a pub's trade quite easily.

I met a bloke called Bob Taylor on holiday last year, some senior murder detective. He had retired and wrote a book, been on telly etc, but got bored and went back to work for Wakefield Police, specifically to hound gypsies. Well that wasn't the exact job description, but it was what attracted him to the post.

Every town should have a Bob Taylor, keep em in check.

He had some great stories in the bar of an evening. Top bloke.

My Parents are currently trapped in The Alhambra

They have been there for two hours. Apparently the road outside is gridlocked.

RE: It's just been on Sky News

Drove home from work in blazing sunshine (in London), and saw live report on Sky News from Barnsley. Looks pretty bad up there -we've hardly had a drop of rain down here.
